Except the percentage at which a hitter gets on base by putting the ball in play. To me, that's a pretty damn important stat.

Not as telling as OBP

know for some Saints fans the idea that passing yards is overrated, and I'm a Saints fan, but it's true.

what do Saints fans have to do with and why are they saying its over rated? I would think the opposite.

Touchdown/Int ratio. The only reason people even make the correlation is that they happen to be next to each other in the box score.

i'll also say per 9 innings stats for baseball pitchers...

no one pitches 9 anymore, so let's recalculate all those as per 7 inning stats.

and for relief pitchers, don't even use them, bc getting jacked up and pitching for 1 inning or 1 batter isn't the same as being the workhorse starting the game going through the lineup 3 times

wins for a starting pitcher

they are still held up as an important statistic by most people.

and points per game in basketball only matter if you score them efficiently

That's horseshite. There is a correlation between turnovers and loses.

Yes of ourse ints are an important stat. But td/int ratio is just 2 arbitrary stats put together.

VB beat me to it. Just focus on INTs. The +/- aspect is not as important as say assists/TOs for a point guard.

Assists, you can make a great pass and the guy misses the shot or you can make a crappy pass and the guy makes a great shot.

On the flip side of that it could show that you have the ability to create high percentage shot opportunities

Agree with this. Interception % is a much better way of comparing QBs as far as being careful with the football.

Wins/losses for starting pitchers. So many times a guy will pitch eight innings of one-run ball and take the loss, or conversely give up five runs in six innings but the offense just explodes and he gets the win.

RBI is similarly overvalued. Depends so much on your teammates ability to get on base and who you have hitting behind you.

Not as valuable as it used to be, which is good.

Saves is far and away the worst, most meaningless and destructive stat ever. An entire strategy has been built around the "save". It is a complete abomination. Wins by a pitcher is a distant 2nd.

Back in the GOOD OLD days.. Saves mattered little and starting pitchers wins were much more importatnt than todays WEAK-arse pitchers with a 5 man rotation and most starting pitchers going maybe 6 innings.

I disagree.Irt matters to the D at certain times in the game. You make sure you guard a guy with a higher three % than a guy with a shitty one.
