LHP Kolby Allard was No. 10 prospect in #Braves’ pitching-rich system, according to

@MLBPipeline

. In 20 starts at Triple AA this season, he had a 4.17 ERA, with 98 strikeouts and 36 walks in 110 innings. Fourteenth overall pick in 2015 draft.

You got #10 braves prospect for a 33 year old

I'd take that, it's not like Texas gave up some good pitcher. He's a bullpen arm, very replaceable in off season.

He's also a free agent at end of this season. You could technically resign him in off season.

Meanwhile, teams continue to talk about starting pitchers. Things are heating up, except when they aren't. Continuing to monitor. Clock is ticking. Stay tuned.

Yeah I’m definitely satisfied. I expect to likely see this Allard baw this season. He may start in the rotation next year.

Guy came back from Japan, was mediocre last season and having a solid season. He's 33, soon to be 34. You can find him again or find another bullpen arm next season.

Plus at worst, this kid becomes a young lefty out of bullpen.

You realize Dave Reighetti did the same thing for the Yankees right?

Allard is a strike thrower but doesn’t have enough stuff to get swings and misses. His fastball velocity has dropped since being drafted. He’s got a good curveball but really nothing else to go with it. He wasn’t gonna get another chance to start for the Braves and was probably holding up Ian Anderson from AAA. Rangers got at best a number 5 starter for a bullpen arm that is a free agent at the end of the year. I think it’s a good move for both teams.

He is 21 lol.

Not saying he will be a top of the rotation guy but he has time to develop a put away pitch.

No need to trash your former no. 10 guy in the farm to make it sound better for your team. We’ve already heard we asked for Atlanta to up the offer because the Nats had something on the table as well.

Martin is solid. Never walks guys. I wish him well and hope he is successful.

good trade for both teams. we needed to clear him off the 40 man because we had no plans for him, but he can be a good Keuchel-style of pitcher if he learns to keep his 88mph fastball off the middle of the plate.

Damn, MLB pipeline already moved him to the Rangers and he was No. 10 in ATL’s most recent rankings which was done earlier this month and is somehow No. 16 with Texas.

Our farm blows so I’m not sure how that’s possible.

Allard added a cutter, since his fastball had lost its zip due to his back issues. However he hasn't been able to keep his top flight control. Still young, but is a long shot for sticking in a rotation.

Fangraphs still thinks he can be serviceable though

quote:

Allard has largely been the same pitcher since his draft spring, working with a 45 or 50 fastball, an above average offspeed offering, and plus command. He isn’t big and he got hit around in his first taste of the big leagues, which is what most scouts were afraid might happen to him. It was a short look and many have recovered from performances like that, but Allard has to be fine with what he does, and his style of pitching (along with his weapons) offers almost no margin for error and doesn’t exactly fit where the game is going. Luckily he has advanced feel for what he’s doing on the mound, so there is a path to being a reliable back-end starter.

The only thing I can come up with there is we are top heavy. I don’t really know what to make of that either.

That would make sense. We have no big time guys but a good amount of depth. He probably is just lumped in amongst a lot of average graded guys.

I don't think top heavy systems are too bad as long as you have a FO who can successfully operate among the fringes and know how to find capable depth pieces already in the show

Our top 7-8 guys are all expected to make immediate impacts. Pache, Waters, and Anderson will all be starting by 2021. Probably sooner than that depending on FA signings in the offseason.

Allard probably looking at a 40+ FV, thought he might be higher on the rangers list. But you guys have a lot of guys around there
