Looks like maybe one more last push from the pirates for nate. But looks like, fortunately, he's staying.

Getting Smith for Maxwell looks even better than Hoes for Norris.

I expect to hear they made one more pass at shark though...whith tallion being the bait...cubs of course take no interest with just him.

I don't know about "one hell of a haul". Sound, solid moves may be a better description.
If the O's were thinking about making a serious run, they should have went harder for more impact type players. These guys all serve a purpose no doubt, but they're all meh.

quote:Well done, Baltimore.
Baltimore did its shopping on the cheap this year, acquiring Norris, Francisco Rodriguez and Scott Feldman without relinquishing a top prospect. The 28-year-old Norris has a 3.93 ERA through 21 starts this year and is under team control through 2015.

Yeah Smith has some impressive numbers. That was more of what I was expecting for Norris. I hope Luhnow really likes Hoes (Luhnow's rep is acquiring and developing talent, after all) and/or the second player is decent.

quantity of good players = impact
Especially with their pitching in recent years.

They certainly are upgrades considering what they had. As far as impact, I don't agree. Their rotation coming into a playoff series is very weak. While they're not spending much to upgrade, the upgrades aren't very impactful in the grand scheme of things. If they really wanted a legitimate shot at making a WS, they should have went harder. I feel like they're half assing it with their acquisitions.
Any how my main point is that Rosenthal was making any overstatement, imo of course.

Don't care what baloo says about hoes. he is a 4th outfielder on any legit team--AT BEST

Of course it comes down to juggling Win Now vs. sustained success. They still have a young team with a good young core of players. Is it worth it to give up Bundy/Gausman (a big chuck of your future) for someone like Lee, who's 35 and who knows how much longer he'll be a legit ace.

Really, I know almost nothing about him. He's not one of the O's core prospects and the O's have more investing in the never ending saga of Nolan Reimold in OF. With Urrutia's acquisition, Hoes was pretty darn expendable.
Gave up a spare part who didn't fit in the team's plans for a starter, to make up for the fact every O's pitching prospect gets hurt which makes me want to take my own life. Good trade.

You answered your own question. It depends whether you want to win now or not.
With that said, I understand your point with Cliff Lee... but it doesn't have to be Cliff Lee.

Rosenthal made a good point that the O's got a hell of a haul in Norris, Feldman and K-Rod without giving up a top prospect. Good to see them making smart moves over there. Props to Duquette.
Yeah, they didn't get a stud like Garza or Lee, but they remade they upgraded the rotation and the pen at almost no cost. That's a terrific job by the front office. I'm not used to the Orioles doing smart things.
