Does anyone want Kevin Gregg, or anyone else in the Cubs pen for that matter?

I don't know if this is the right place to say it, but a lot of prospects are overvalued.
The contenders have to go for it. You are trying to win a title.

Nothing cause he's not getting traded unless a team drastically overpays, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Loria holds on to Stanton until he flat out says he doesn't want to be apart of the team.

The market is changing. You don't get draft picks for rental players, scouting is more accurate, and of course prospects are a whole lot cheaper.
I get that teams need to go for it sometimes, but you have to be weary of the Wheeler for Beltran or the Segura for Greinke. Trading 6 years of cheap team control for two months and no potential draft pick comp...and not even making the playoffs.

You may.... But then you have your Justin Smoak's of the world. With prospects you never know, we've seen several highly rated (and centerpiece prospects) dealt who never were able to hit in majors. For every Wheeler there is a Brian Matusz for every Segura there is a Justin Smoak's.
If a team has a chance to win a World Series, trade an unknown quality for a known IMO and to clarify I mean a player that will put you over the hump like a Cliff Lee not a middling player that is just barely better than what he is replacing.

A's seemed to give up a good prospect for a middling infielder

Green is a B- or C+ prospect. Can't play short and projects as an average prospect across the board at second. 10-12 HR power. Contact is his best tool and that's only slightly above average.
Don't think this will come back to haunt Beane, there are a lot of Grant Greens out there.

Still, probably could put up numbers compared to Callaspo IMO it seems....

Right, I know. The important thing is to scout your own prospects well to know what you're dealing with. You can't be afraid to cash in your assets, but you also can't throw away 6 years of cheap potential

Agreed. Player for player value-wise the Angels probably got the better end of the deal, but Callaspo is the better player the last two months of the year, which is all that matters for the A's because you can re-stock your supply of Grant Greens in the offseason.
Upgrading now without damaging your future is the correct move for the A's imo.

I think as discussed earlier, you have to have a plan to turn every prospect into value for the mlb club. Sometimes that means them physically playing and at others, moving pieces for another player.
You can't just hoard for the sake of saying you have a great farm.

Right. You have to extract the most value you can out of a chip. Getting Peavy for Iglesias is really, really good. Getting Iglesias for Garcia fills a need, but you could probably do better.
The best teams max out the value of their players in trades or in playing them

A lot of the reliever needs were filled...with that said i still expect gregg to be delt.
Russell was being pursued...but he has too much value to the cubs...i expect their asking price was too high hoping someone would bite to make it worth parting with him.

I love when teams send scouts to watch 10 year vets.
WTF are you gonna see?

Do they look at his as a loogy or see him as a left handed reliever? I think that drives the price and I don't think they'll get it high enough for the cubs to accept.

Starting to get worried about the lack of news on Norris

We'll take Miguel Cabrera.

I wonder if the O's would be interested in a package deal of Norris & Carter
ETA: not with Morneau still on the table
