A supposed front office insider guy on a dodger site I go to has been throwing around that the Dodgers and rays are talking and that if it goes any further, it will probably be Holmes and yadier Alvarez for archer

And shields. Don't forget James shields. Who wouldn't want that nightmare contract.

Padres are paying most of it.

And he has been pitching pretty darn good his last five starts, giving up no more than 2 runs per game and pitching at least 6 innings per game.
He got that 21.81 ERA down to a 6.

Totally set. Just about 8 dudes including our 3rd baseman, a part-time infielder, a part-time catcher and occassionaly some relief pitchers.

That's about as set as you can get

Heyward, Fowler, and future is Almora... then you have Solar as a 4th or he could replace Almora/Fowler.

oh you mean for this year... well Schwarber isn'the helping this year but the Cubs have 3 other young guys waiting and a steady vet in Fowler.

oh and yes that does mean I think they resign Fowler again at the end of the year.

he is 22 and playing alright in limited action, too early to give up on him.

fangraphs even projects him as a solid starter.

I hate to give up those two guys. Alvarez especially is going to be electric. The guy was reaching 99 mph in his last start. And Holmes will be as good as Archer 4 or 5 years from now.

Giants executive VP of baseball ops Brian Sabean tells Alex Pavlovic of CSNBayArea.com that his club isn’t just looking to build out the depth in its relief corps. “It’s not just going to be the average Joe coming in,” he said. “You’re thinking it’s going to be a meaningful piece, but the competition on the premium people is going to be real stiff and it already is.” Sabean explained that the preference is for a high-strikeout arm who “could really get through an inning and not have much flak in getting through the inning” — rather than what he described as “contact relievers.”

Schwarber absolutely has a spot in LF. They are not going to re-sign Fowler to start Almora in LF. They're not benching Cashman's 50 hr man for outfield defense improvement. If Fowler is re-signed, Almora will sit or get dealt.
Soler can't play a full year, doesn't even have interest in playing defense or running the bases and hasn't really broken through yet. He will be sold as soon as they think his value is high enough.
Almora and Soler are two more rh hitters in a too rh hitting lineup. Bryant, Russell, Contreras, Baez. Fowler hits better as a righty. Heyward can't protect Rizzo with his hitting. Schwarber crushes rhp.
Theres a reason they're trying to rent Josh Reddick right now for LF.

His value seems to be dropping, he hasn't hit in the chances he had but he is still really young as well. Good problem to have really all of their potential OF are young and they still have Ian Happ, Billy McKinny, and Eloy Jimenez in the minors who could be ready in a couple (or few) more years.

Before Soler got hurt he was hitting the ball really well and was taking walks. He's been a good starter when he's healthy, but he can't stay on the field.

I won't be upset if the Cubs sell on Soler.

Shields is 10 mill a year for 2 years after this. Padres are picking up rest. Hardly a nightmare.
Eaton's one of, if not the best defensive RF in the AL and he gets on base. He has a lot of value....the best trade this FO made in a decade.
Duke and Nate jones are good bullpen pitchers. D rib is a mostly dependable closer but requires salary eating.
Fraziers been hitting a lot better the last month. I'd put him at first though.

I know he is a minor piece in the whole scheme of thing, but where do you think Szczur fits in all of this? Does he stick around and make the club out of spring next year as a bench guy? Or does he get dealt somewhere and play everyday?

I can't imagine he has any value to other teams and he's a cheap guy who pinch hits and plays defense. I would keep him around easily.

I don't know what his value is to other clubs, but he's a good piece to have on this team. I'm okay with him making the team as long as he keeps it up the way he has this year.
