And the yanks apparently chose Torres as the centerpiece over Eloy.

Cubs are 55-1 when heading into the 9th with a lead.
Don't really get trading a top prospect for a half season rental
We have a glut of prospects so i wont fret, just seems like a desperation move when you dont really need to make one

I wonder how many we've lost when tied or better after the sixth or seventh. Rondon has blown four or five saves and given up some ties, Strop has blown some games, Grimm was getting killed in the 7th. We aren't just replacing one thing for another in the 9th and everything else stays the same.

The price for Chapman will always be cheap in this deal.
not really.
the cubs are in more of a "win now" mode than maybe any team in history. they're going to give up more than they should to get chapman.
there's a reason the yankees have settled upon a deal with the cubs instead of washington, houston, etc.
the yankees are getting a top 100 prospect and more for a guy they wouldn't even re-sign after this season. the yankees are going to love this deal.

I can remember several games that we've won in extras after blowing a 9th inning lead.
I read it somewhere this morning that summed it up best. The Cubs aren't getting Chapman to make the playoffs. They're getting him to win in October.

Also, how many games were the Cubs losing by a run or two when the deficit increased with the bullpen on the mound effectively putting the game out of reach? It's one reason I hate the "hold" statistic in MLB. It only give credit to relievers who do their job when their team is winning when they enter the game.

I can see Maddon using Chapman in the high stress situations, not strictly the 9th.
Also, if we get an extension, then this will be great.

Cease the 2014 guy that dropped to the 6thRd cause of Tommy John. Would have been a likely 1st Rd pick.

U know maddon doesn't do anything the way you're "supposed to". We'll have a lefty closer & a righty closer. Maddon ushers in the era of "specialty specialists"

honestly i think they are envisioning a Carl Edwards/Chapman/Rondon 7th/8th/9th.
or at least I am. Interchange AC & Rondon if you must.
once the fans see Chapman pitch in Cubbie blue no one is going to remember Glebyer Torres.
Also, saw a stat on twitter last night, the Cardinals havent scored on Chapman since 2011

Cubs 2-5 in games tied after 6. 19-5 in games leading by 1-2 runs after 6.

Another name surfaces: Billy McKinney could be headed to NYY.
McKinney was the other prospect the Cubs received in the trade with the A's to get Addison Russell.

I'm fine with that. Corner OF with good bat but no power. Zagunis has passed him by as that fourth of type.
