The Braves want to add a starter, reliever and hitter, but the trade market is thin on controllable talent and GM Alex Anthopoulos is reluctant to trade prospects for rentals, according to major-league sources.
Pitching is the Braves’ priority; offensively, they have no obvious holes. At third base, for example, their urgency to upgrade is not as pronounced as many expected — Johan Camargo is batting .256 with seven homers and a .790 OPS since the release of José Bautista on May 20.
A right-handed hitter who could handle center field would figure to hold some appeal; Ender Inciarte entered Wednesday batting .208 with a .536 OPS in 108 plate appearances against lefties. Inciarte, however, offers stellar defense in center, and the Braves do not need help against lefties; their .804 OPS against lefties rank second in the majors only to the Yankees’ .838.

They've been linked to several controllable relievers like Givens, Kela and Hand to a lesser extent.
What controllable starters are out there? Looks pretty thin, right?
Any RH CF/4th OF type rentals? Cameron Maybin?

I wonder what Gausman could be had for. Still has a few years of control and seems like a breakout candidate with a different org considering the Orioles track record with pitchers

Padres left-hander Brad Hand might be the most coveted reliever on the trade market, but several rival executives have expressed doubt that the southpaw will be dealt before the July 31 non-waiver Trade Deadline, according to MLB Network insider Jon Heyman in an article for Fancred Sports. "Hand is going nowhere," one rival said.

Don't think the Mets guys are in play within the division.

No shite. AJ Preller is still around to frick things up. His annual trade deadline WTF moment.

Maybe not, but the Mets have made smaller trades within the division over the past couple of years. To the Braves and Marlins, but smaller trades, they like trading with the Pirates though it appears.

deGrom or Thor though and you have those guys pitching against you in the division for several years which would be tough to swallow and if you're the Braves you're likely handing the Mets 3+ of your top 100 guys to kickstart their rebuild and play against for the next decade. Don't think either team would be jumping at that.

Adding a frontline guy like DeGrom or Thor for the braves would be a great set up for them for the future, but I agree with you, not likely within the division

The mets arent trading Syndergaard for anything and it will take an obscene amount for degrom

The Dodgers, Brewers and Yankees have “separated themselves from the pack” with their current offers to the Orioles, tweets USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, though he notes that there’s no clear favorite among those three just yet.

he Orioles, Bowden hears, “have been told [Sheffield] will not be included in any potential deal” for Machado.

Olney questions how strongly the Yankees are pursuing Machado, noting that it only helps the Orioles for those rumors to circulate and put pressure on other clubs. Ultimately, both feel it to be likelier that Machado lands with an NL club — with both the Dodgers and Brewers standing out as plausible destinations.

Syndergaard is more likely to be traded than deGrom.Thor hasn't played a full season in two years... And it would take an obscene amount for either one
I dont think either one will be traded during the season, maybe in the off season. The Mets dont even have a GM right now, they have three guys filling the role. I could be way wrong about all of this, lol

Heyman also notes that he’s heard the Red Sox mentioned in connection with Royals second baseman Whit Merrifield.

One more from Heyman, who notes that the Mets aren’t especially anxious to listen to offers on lefty Steven Matz. New York will certainly entertain offers on its entire roster, as they’re at least listening on Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard,
quote:
Sticking with the Mets, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports that the team actually hasn’t received much in the way of inquiries on eiher deGrom or Syndergaard as of late (Twitter link). The general sense that the asking price would be overwhelming could be a factor; as Puma terms it, some teams may have sticker shock “without even seeing the sticker.”

The Yankees’ interest in Wheeler, at this point, is considered to be “mild,” Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News reports in a deeper look at the right-hander’s market.

Scouts from at least eight teams watched Wheeler’s most recent start, and of that group, Ackert lists the Diamondbacks as a club that came away from the outing with interest in the righty. The Reds, despite their rebuilding status, are planning to watch him again this weekend.

Man this would have been wild
quote:
Nathan asks: I was thinking about Sheffield’s name being thrown around in the trade rumors and was wondering what trades almost included Severino?
I’m sure there are plenty of trade scenarios we don’t know about, but, going through the MLB Trade Rumors archives, here are the most notable Severino trade rumors:
2014-15 offseason: Braves wanted him in a potential Jason Heyward/Andrelton Simmons deal.
July 2015: Phillies wanted him in a potential Cole Hamels deal.
July 2015: Padres wanted him a potential Craig Kimbrel deal.
July 2015: Tigers wanted him in a potential David Price deal.
That Heyward/Simmons trade was going to be massive ten-player blockbuster that would’ve sent prospects Luis Severino, Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez, Ian Clarkin, and Manny Banuelos to Atlanta for Heyward, Simmons, Melvin Upton, David Carpenter, and Chris Johnson. The Braves approached the Yankees about that trade, just to be clear. The Yankees had been trying to get Simmons for a while, so the Braves took their shot. Can’t say I blame ’em. You’ll never get Scott Kazmir for Victor Zambrano if you don’t ask. Brian Cashman said no and thank goodness for that.

According to Jon Heyman of Fancred Sports , some around the game believe the Yankees will try to trade Gray away.
Some believe the Yankees will consider trading Sonny Gray a year after acquiring him. He has struggled this year, and especially so at Yankee Stadium. Some believe it's either the stadium, or the city, that doesn't agree with him, and that he'd do much better elsewhere.
