I think Houston should have went for it. Cueto or Hamels would have them a legitimate post season contender. Who knows though... maybe San Diego is their team and they go yolo for Upton and Cashner/Ross.

I read tons of stuff that Hamels would have probably vetoed Houston.
Once the Rangers came into the mix, he prolly told the FO to make that happen.

i just don't think Houston is good enough to make a trade like that. They need these farm guys to pan out, especially the hitters, and would be really bad to mortgage their future for hamels. Just my opinion
also i thought the Cubs were on his approved list?

Yeh
Hamels didn't want to be in Houston for whatever reason.

Agree 100%, we really need Batting help at the Major League Level. The Starting rotation is solid with the addition of Kazmir, probably need another lefty arm out of the bullpen.

Bae
shite, if Wilmer Flores has value in a trade....

I can't peg the value of Baez at all right now, both in IRL MLB trade talk and fantasy talk.

Oh dude, im not saying Baez doesn't have value. I'm saying i don't know what said value is. Some seem to have him off the charts while others were viewing him as a buy low option as early as two months ago. Obviously things are a little different after his return and him knocking the frick out of the ball last night.
I've also been sniffing around in my fantasy leagues trying to see what it would take to get him. Varying results all the way around.

Well I'm hoping Luhnow is working on that

The Houston #Astros had put together a strong package #Phillies Cole Hamels, but he exercised his no-trade rights, and ends up w #Rangers.
there it is

FInal deal and its a doozy: Matt Harrison, Alec Asher, Jerad Eickhoff, Nick Williams, Jorge Alfaro & Jake Thompson for Hamels+Diekman+Cash.
And there is Thompson

Good job Daniels, fricked up your farm system yet again for a 32-year-old pitcher

I guess the Cubs equivalent would be something like Baez or Torres, Almora, McKinney, Villanueva, Johnson
That's pretty pricey, but Hamels is a TOR.
Curious to how much cash Philly is kicking in.

Brilliant move by Lunhow to drive up the price. He knew Hamels was intent on going to DFW and pushed the Rangers to mortgage their future. Now only the Angels are a threat going forward.

Kazmir was a good buy. But without another arm, they won't legitimately contend in an AL that they can actually win this year imo. It's not over yet though.
Yea Hamels wasn't a likely option... I was pretty much just saying. But if a contending offer was made, at least you know they went for it and leave it in Hamels' hands.

They didn't by any means mortgage their future. The Rangers system is loaded. There are more of Nick Williams type guys on the horizon. You're giving Lunhow way too much credit here. Were the Rangers really bidding against Houston when they've pretty much been the odds on favorite in landing a pitcher who didn't want to go to Houston?

still think the Rangers are sitting pretty nice with their youth. But they really need a front line starter, and they just don't have that in their farm right now.
