If everyone in that area bought a ticket, every game would sell out. Not sure what you are trying to say.

Dude that’s what I’m saying. The local attendance has little to do with it now. The games will be full enough if the teams are decent. If they’re winning franchises they’ll sell out every game.

It’s much bigger than just greater NOLA. With this you gotta factor in All of Louisiana, South MS, Mobile and Pensacola as that would be the market as a whole. Theres plenty of TVs in that region to justify it. As another said even some of Texas would jump on board. Houston people hate anything Dallas so a NOLA NHL team would be preferred for them.

Houston is the 4th largest city in the country. If you can’t have fun there and find it “boring”, that’s on you.

It’s too large that’s its problem. Everything is an hour apart. It’s extremely diverse with a massive international population therefore little to no interest in hockey.

You can’t seriously try to act like the average American would rather go to Houston over New Orleans. It’s not even close.

But where the average person would want to go for a trip has nothing to do with what city has the better chance to support an NHL team
firstly season tickets are mostly bought buy corporate dollars. New Orleans doesn't have enough corporations to support the nba u have

And an All-Star game is one game every 20 seasons Houston is hosting a World Cup next year Houston has the hotel rooms and the restaurants and everything that's necessary to support a week long event in the city. New Orleans is at a great run as a host City but being a city that host a sporting event weeklong is not the same as the city needs to support a franchise season after season

Though I do think MLB has a chance if they build a stadium in Mandeville.

I always thought the Skippers would be a great MLB team name

except "poor fan support" is among the leading reason why franchises relocate.

Does NOLA even have an ice skating rink? if your city doesn’t even have an ice skating rink, you shouldn’t even be mentioned as a potential NHL city

I’d rather go several places ahead of Houston, but that doesn’t have anything to do with its ability to support a team.

New Orleans fanatics overrate great food and a walk in the French Quarter. It’s 2025, we are more connected than ever. You can find great food in Houston. You also have way more corporate dollars in Houston. NO couldn’t even support Double A baseball.

If that’s the case, why did Phoenix and Atlanta fail? Why not stick a team in Atlantic City? Or Little Rock? Or Texarkana? The owners want every dollar they can get, ranging from parking to concessions to deep pocketed sponsors.

Do you really think there’s enough folks in Houston and East Texas that want to drive to NO for a hockey game? By that logic, they must be flocking to DFW to see the Stars.

if you factor in an area that spread out geographically for one, then you have to for the other as well.

if you include all of Louisiana, half of MS, South Alabama and Pensacola, then you have to include more than just Houston.

San Antonio to Houston is nearly an identical (mileage and time) drive as Pensacola to Nola.
Austin to Houston is even shorter than that.

this area of the Gulf Coast:

is more than 3 times the size (square mileage) of this area of Texas:

yet that area of Texas has over 13 million people vs less than 8 million in that huge area of the Gulf Coast.

and the way TV markets work, San Antonio and Austin would be grouped in with Houston a lot quicker than Pensacola would New Orleans.

San Antonio gets Houston Texans games as their "home" team on Sundays.
Pensacola gets Tampa Bay Bucs as their "home" team on Sundays.

Houston is fine for business especially if you’re in the O&G or Medical sectors.

Pure authenticity and character are non existent in Houston. It’s an endless stream of concrete and strip malls with zero charm.

Everyone lives in their cars, they come from all over the world and country, there’s no a singular culture that stands out because there’s entirely too many. It’s honestly not great. The jobs are what is keeping people here.

Absolutely false. San Antonio is massive cowboys country. They love the cowboys big time.

And again, nobody is going to start an NHL franchise in New Orleans because of its authentic culture.

you may be correct on that, I'll take your word for it.

I saw conflicting reports as to which team was televised as the "home" game on Sundays in the NFL with multiple saying all Texans games and most Cowboy games are carried.

the point was more just on the sheer number of people in one region vs the others.
and that's all owners or TV execs care about.
total number of eyeballs.

and while I personally would have loved for Louisiana to get an MLB team (or you with an NHL team) when I still lived there, I understand why they don't, and likely never will, have one.

It's just simply not a big enough market to support it.

all of the "warmer weather" cities that have NHL teams are all a lot larger than NOLA is.

You can find great food in any big city. Doesn’t make the city better.

I don’t think Houston people and more specifically Texas people in general understand that bigger doesn’t always mean better. An NHL team in Houston would be just like Atlanta. It’s just another thing with no significance.

Smaller markets getting these teams is a big deal. It means more to them. Exactly why Austin would be better for NHL than Houston.

I just hate big cities and how people think they’re the answer to everything. Houston’s best trait is how close it is to South Louisiana

I’m very familiar with the lay of the land in Texas. Everywhere is Cowboys first excluding Houston proper. Once you get outside greater Houston it’s all cowboys. Really it’s Houston proper. There’s a good bit of cowboys fans around the burbs.

Beaumont has a large “how bout them cowboys” billboard right on I-10.

South Texas has cowboys gear and merch all over.

West Texas is all cowboys as well.

The RGV is heavy cowboys.

It’s pretty much the same with the Rangers and Astros but the Astros have a little stronger presence due to the run they’re been on since 2017.

The Texans market themselves so poorly and fail to capitalize on stealing cowboy fans. Theres many native Texans who never liked the cowboys and are lifelong fans of the 49ers packers Steelers etc. unacceptable. The Texans seemingly don’t exist outside of the 610 loop.

I think the Pelicans will get a new stadium in the near future and we could see the NHL expanding and sharing a stadium with the Pelicans. It really makes the most sense.

It’s a real shame that there are no minor league baseball teams in Louisiana. It could definitely work in a downtown setting.
