Agreed

And it will hurt their long term, maybe even short term chances to win it all

I mean, if you hit 62 HRs and lead the league in every offensive category and your team gets swept in the ALCS, you need a lot more pieces, and this contract is going to severely limit maneuvering.

So he has to produce at the level throughout the life of his contract to even give the other existing pieces a chance to improve enough to make a difference.

But, of course I'm saying this to the wrong guy.

He is gonna spend his arse off until we get the farm system built up. I think our top 7 prospects are all position players and earliest outlook for a pitcher is 2025

Until he's 40? Goodness gracious. After 5 years, this deal could look Pujols/Miggy bad.

We also seem to feel pretty confident in either vargas or lux

I didn’t think Vargas was a SS. Does seem like Braves and Dodgers will just plug internally with Grissom/Lux (if Swanson leaves also)

Can’t believe the length on the Turner deal. But I also thought he’d get like 8/280 or so, so the total value isn’t too far off I guess. But I don’t see him a guy who’s gonna age well at all

Vargas is definitely more of a third baseman who is probably going to take over for the red turner

Michael Busch isn't far off from big league action either.

Could see the Dodgers going after Amed Rosario. Has played some OF too and could be a super utility type for a year or everyday SS. Either way would soak up plenty of ABs. I’m sure Cleveland is looking to deal him with FA a year away.
