Right-hander Justin Verlander and the New York Mets are in agreement on a contract, sources familiar with the deal tell ESPN.

Justin Verlander’s deal with the Mets is for two years and $86 million, per source. It includes a vesting third-year option. After losing Jacob deGrom, the Mets replace him with the American League Cy Young Award winner, who will be paired atop their rotation with Max Scherzer.

Thank y'all for these updates - greatly appreciated.

Question for the thread: financial considerations aside, which pitcher would you rather have on your team's roster for 2023: deGrom or Verlander?

Verlander

Coming off another Cy Young while deGrom coming off yet another season of spending the majority of it injured.

ETA: according to MLB network apparently the Mets are still in on Rodon as well.

According to major league sources, the Red Sox did make a three-year offer to Abreu, but their offer was in the low- to mid-$40 million range. Abreu went to the Astros on a three-year, $59.5 million deal.
