He’s only 27. He had one off year. I think he’s better than what he showed last year. Very good trade for Astros.

I mean last year was bad but the year before he had almost a 3 ERA.... I think he improves though, I can't believe that is all the Astros gave up after seeing the reports of what they wanted from the Yankees.

I highly doubt that.

He was a Cy Young candidate 2 years ago. A lot of people will focus on his bad last year, but forget he’s only 27. Are the offenses in the AL West that tough? I don’t see the DH giving him much trouble. Pirates only get a middle reliever and a backup IF and some prospect I’ve never heard of. Good buy low trade for Astros.

That’s the going rate for relief now. Aren’t you still stuck with Giles closing?

I don't think Cole is same pitcher he was 2 years ago, his numbers increasing, and that HR per 9, from o.5 to 1.4 is significant. And now he moves to hitters parks and no more puds at 8th spot and pitcher at 9th spot. He'll win games because of the team, but he's trending down.

We are asking him to be a 3rd guy. Not gonna have to depend on him to be an ace. We’d love that production but we have a rotation that works out like this

Verlander
Keuchel
Cole
McCullers
Morton
McHugh
Peacock

Every name on there with the exception of Cole (obviously) and McHugh pitched dominant innings in the postseason his year

Even if he produces like last year this is a great trade for the Astros

I agree. Didn’t Yankees offer more?

I’m not going to ignore his horrific postseason and act like any Stros fans trust him in a tight spot as of now, but just for the sake of defending a player on my team, people may forget he was a top 3 finalist for AL reliever of the year last year

From what I read the Yankees offered Clint Frazier and another prospects but the Pirates wanted Torres and Frazier....

One trade report had Frazier, Chance Adams, and Andjur going to the Pirates for Cole and Harrison.

Yeah, our pitching coach Strom has a great history of getting the best out of pitchers (Keuchel gives him 100% credit for the pitcher he has become), but on top of that Cole is going to be 3 or 4 in our rotation this season so perhaps not having the pressure of being the ace on a staff will help

What do you mean by Peacock- no and McCullers- not really?

He said everyone on the list outside of Cole pitched dominant innings in the postseason....

I don't consider Peacock and his 5+ ERA dominant, he had a great WS in the 7 innings he pitched but wasn't good against Boston or New York

McCullers pitched a bit more (20 innings vs 12) but he was dominant, he was good.

I am really just arguing with the dominant statement, both performed when needed but neither was dominant/shut down. This comes from my viewing plus the reaction to the fans here and on other message boards I frequent.

Unless we mean they just had a few dominant innings, in which case... sure they had some dominant innings. However, lets include any pitcher in that then. If so then couldn't we say McHugh was dominant?

If this is in response to their upcoming roles than Peacock may start in the pen but McCullers is 100% in the rotation.

If this is in response to pitching dominant innings in the playoffs then

Peacock pitched in 4 games with a 2.45 ERA including a 3.2 scoreless inning save. Dominant innings in the WS.

McCullers pitched 6 one run innings and was pulled too early in the ALCS and followed that with a 4 inning game 7 save.

Dont see how you can argue that they didnt pitch dominant post season innings.

So why not include McHugh if you want to cherry pick? I mean he had a 0.00 ERA in 4 innings in the ALCS?????

How are those prospects that the Astros have up? From reaction seems like the Astros did good

I didn’t realize he was that good in the regular season.
