That’s a nice haul. Sandy, Sierra & Gallen could all see time with the big club this year

Sandy saw time last year as a 22yr old, Sierra as a 21 yr old. Thats rare and means those guys can play

But they're redundant within the org. And while I wanted to see both of them stay with the Cardinals, it's going to be a while before they match the value the Cardinals will get from Ozuna.

And when I say the Cardinals barely gave up anything, I mean they still have Flaherty, Weaver, Reyes, and Hudson from the pitching side, and still a slew of MLB ready OFs from which to deal in another trade. Sure the piece they gave up are nice, but they've got a ton more that they can still use in a trade.

Damn if angels can add a pitcher and stay healthy they should contend for a playoff spot

what are you expecting?

odds are he doest repeat those career high hr/fb or babip. He could very well be closer to the 25 HR bat than the 37 he hit last season. Which in the end woud basically make him Stephen Piscotty. If Ozuna regresses to the mean and they deal piscotty, It would be a curious trade

Which would have still led (tied) the Cardinals last year.

I'm not expecting last season to repeat itself, but 30 HRs isn't out of the question. I'm expecting more than we got out of the combo of Piscotty and Grichuk from a consistency standpoint and production standpoint.

Yankees inquired about Grienke I would assume they have to take Ellsbury to make that work

Think they would inquire, they did so on Cole as well.

I may get me an Ozuna jersey, guy is going to be a crowd favorite in STL like he was in Miami and excellent in the club house too.

He's great friends with CMart.

Should be a near perfect fit. Cards got a lot better today with more on the way.

I don’t think piscotty got a fair shake. In everyday ABs two years ago he put up Ozuna numbers. Ozuna was inconsistent up until last year, too

Idk, you just extended Piscotty. I don’t have issue w Ozuna, more about giving up assets when you already had a guy

ETA

Piscotty: 1306 PA’s .268/.346/.438/.784
Ozuna: 2684 PA’s .277/.329/.457/.786

Everyone is raping the Marlins. Hopefully for the Marlins, these moves aren’t indicative of what the future holds for them.

Even in salary dumping, the combination for moving Gordon(for a bag of balls), Stanton(underwhelming even for the salary dump), and Ozuna(the worst definition of a sell high) barely improved their farm system.

Given that his head was so far from the playing field last season (his mom being diagnosed with ALS really fricked him up), Piscotty probably got a longer leash than he should have.

His mom's health issues are part of the reason he will probably get traded to the As.

ESPN gives the Cards a B+ on the deal and the Marlins a C+.

quote:

Why St. Louis made the deal: Ozuna is coming off a monster 2017, hitting .312/.376/.548 with 37 home runs while also winning the Gold Glove Award for left field in the National League. It added up to a 5.8-WAR season that ranked ninth among NL position players, and this gives the Cardinals the middle-of-the-order bat they've desired. It also creates one of the best outfields in the game with Tommy Pham -- coming off a breakout season of 6.4 WAR -- likely moving to center field on a full-time basis with Ozuna and Dexter Fowler in the corners.

Gordon deal was bad

I think Stanton and Ozuna got what the market called for. Stanton w the contract and I don’t think GMs are buying Zuna as a 35 HR bat

I think if they could’ve gotten Frazier in the Stanton deal, coupled with the Ozuna return (I don’t think it’s bad) then they would not have made out too bad. I think that Gordon deal was botched

I can understand the Stanton deal as he pretty much handcuffed the Marlins in being able to refuse where he wanted to go. But you have to think coming off a great year, they should have at least been able to get a higher floor prospect in the Ozuna deal. Even someone like Bader would have made the deal more platable. Alcantara may still just be a reliever and Sierra maybe a Lorenzo Cain lite. Galleon can be a mid rotation starter but more likely a back end starter. The Gordon deal was just bad.

At the plate, I don’t see much difference between them.

I think they would have had more leverage had the Ozuna deal would have happened first. They would have shown they were serious about selling and said go now or stay for the rebuild.

Marlins better hope Yelich doesn't want out of Miami. It would really hurt the Marlins if he makes it clear he wants out. If teams know Marlins have to move Yelich it would really hurt his value with teams knowing the Marlins have to move him. What type of package would it take to get Yelich? I would imagine it would be 2 top 50 prospects and another top 100 could get the deal done. It will be interesting to see what teams are willing to give up for a guy that isn't a big power hitter.
