$10-11mil isn’t that much considering that guy from Japan got $7.5mil with no prior worthwhile mlb time
And Minor got $9.3mil per

I'm guessing this means Davis won't be back.

Sucks because the back end of the bullpen could definitely use both.

He could still be back, Cubs have 4 guys as FA from back end of the pen? Morrow replaces 1

Hopefully so but I guess it all depends on how high the price tag goes.

There's a little wiggle room now that the garbage contracts of Rondon and Lackey are gone.

It isn’t much considering the Cubs have money nor would it hinder anything they want to do. That said, if he’s not closing, it is an overpay especially with his extensive injury history and how much he’s pitched over the last 5 years. Minor is at least going to give them so innings and is getting starters pay.

It’s a good signing just a little rich. Guys like Bryan Shaw are licking their chops now. The closer market both FA and trade wise just went up as well.

The Pirates would be insane to trade Rivero imo. He wants to sign an extension there. It would take a heck of a haul.

I was surprised how little Gregorson pitched in the playoffs. Hinch must have not trusted him much.

Yankees willing to eat 15m a year to get rid of Ellsbury, essentially meaning whatever team is willing to take him would only pay 7m a season. Issue is Ellsbury has a full no-trade clause as well.

c'mon pappy, you are more evolved than this. Setup guys are just as important as closers these days.

Minor has an injury history too, and as we discussed his stuff is amped up when only throwing an inning. Remains to be seen if he can effectively start.

I mean if he doesn't end up starting, its the richest contract for a non closer

I'm sure he would approve a deal somewhere he would play every day

hmm

morrow is a def overpay, but these guys were made RPs for a reason, yes? Morrow has this variety of injuries that have mostly been ok when converted to full time RP. Minor, on the other hand, hasnt thrown more than 3 IP since Sept 2014. He had that shoulder that he couldnt get over. They are asking for trouble making Minor a SP again imo

It’s the new wave of baseball I know. He’s getting paid more than Andrew Miller off of 43 innings last season. Minor pitched 70 plus and got less annually while pitching just as good if not better.

I’m surprised we are debating they paid a premium for his service. They did... at least from the info we’ve been provided so far.

It’s risky but it’s worth a shot considering how much Cobb and Lynn will go for. They’ve been desperate for starting pitching for a few years now so it’s worth the gamble to see if they can find some value. If he doesn’t work out, they’ll just make him their closer if he doesn’t blow out his arm. The investment isn’t significant where it’ll hurt them if it doesn’t work out.
