Yeah, there are reports that the Mets offered him 160/7 but to play 3B, SS is taken obviously.
If that's the case I would rather we just spend a little more and go after Bregman.
If this is the route they are going it doesn't seem like Alonso is a priority, unless they plan to move Vientos or him to DH.

So where do the Rays go now?

quote:

While nothing is official, it’s appears likely that a historic deal to build a new $1.3 billion stadium at the Tropicana Field site is all but dead. And, consequently, baseball’s future in Tampa Bay is at greater risk than ever before.

The Pinellas County Commission has already postponed one vote on bonds that would go toward the financing of the ballpark and appears poised to delay it again Tuesday. The setback has already disrupted a series of deadlines that have halted construction plans and would likely cause a significant increase in the cost of the project.

An increase that, under the terms of the deal, would be entirely the team’s responsibility.

Adames had his best season of his career last year. It will be interesting to see how he performs now that he's gotten paid. Not sure I'd pay him 7 years $182 million, but looks like you have to overpay to get these free agents today.

Yep. The market needs a correction. But, it’s going to take some hefty dead weight on the end of these deals for that to happen.

Agreed, I think some of these contracts that the Padres and Phillies doled out the last few years are going to bog them both down in the coming years as they both laid down some long contracts and some for guys who are getting up there in age now.

7 years for Adames is not as bad as some I've seen, he's 29 right now, but while his numbers were good last year, that was his best season, I think and your paying him to do at least that from here on and that's highly unlikely.

You think so? I know he rejected the Astros qualifying offer, do you think the Astros will not counter offer?

It will be interesting to see the years. I think the trend is going to be more and more higher AAV and fewer years for these free agents especially one's like Bregman who will be 31 years old entering the season.
