The Miami Marlins hired Rachel Balkovec to be their farm director Tuesday, sources told ESPN, tabbing the first woman to manage a minor league team to ramp up their player development.

Balkovec, 36, has spent more than a decade in organized baseball and the past two years managing the Tampa Tarpons, the New York Yankees' Single-A affiliate, where she went 122-136.

Reportedly have also made significant offers to Hoskins, Chapman, Bellinger and Montgomery.

I think Chapman's bat is a big concern, power numbers dipped significantly last year and he ain't getting any younger. But any or all of the other 3 I'd be pleased with.

I'd love that offseason

If they were willing to pay Shohei, I don't see why they can't pivot to use that ridiculous amount of money across multiple players

Shohei was a different animal due to the potential revenue he'd bring in. The Marquee Network the Cubs just started two years ago alone would kill on new viewers.

No one else on the market brings close to that potential revenue stream and of course teams have to pay penalties for going beyond the luxury tax, each tier progressively more. The taxes are easier to pay with the extra stream of cash Ohtani would bring in.

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs have reportedly agreed to a trade that helps the Dodgers clear some 40-man roster space and gives the Cubs some major-league depth. Headed to the Cubs are right-handed reliever Yency Almonte and infielder Michael Busch, according to ESPN. The Dodgers get back left-handed pitching prospect Jackson Ferris and outfielder Zyhir Hope.

I would be thrilled about this trade if it were with anyone else BUT the Dodgers. I know Busch can rake but Ferris is a stud and only 20.

Busch had no spot on the team unfortunately as I like the offensive profile

But fine with getting two high ceiling guys

Ferris, who turns 20 on Monday, was a second-round pick out of IMG Academy in the 2022 Draft and had a solid pro debut with Single-A Myrtle Beach last year (3.38 ERA with 77 strikeouts in 56 innings).

Braves sign GM Alex Anthopolous to an extension through 2031.

Best GM in the business. Well deserved.

For some reason Dave Roberts wasn't high on Busch. I think he's going to be an above average MLB hitter, but I like the return we got. And it cleared two spaces on the 40 man roster.

Once they announced Mookie was moving it was only a matter of time

Think we see Pages in September?

Yes I do. 2023 was mostly lost for Pages, which is a shame because he was off to a great start in AAA. He needs a lot of ABs this year. If he picks up where he left off he has to be the early favorite to take over for Teoscar in 2025

Yeah, I was high on Ferris but it's gonna be at least 2 years before he sniffs the majors and Bush I think can possibly help immediately at a position of need, so I'm ok with it. One Cub pitching prospect you will likely see this year is Cade Horton and I think he will help us forget about losing Ferris.

I tend to agree, his time with the Mets showed him to be very thin skinned.
