What? They got exactly what they wanted. They will spend what they have wanted to all along.
Posted on 6/17/20 at 3:03 pm to WestCoastAg
But the amount they spend will be the same. Last offer was around 80 games at 80% right?
Posted on 6/17/20 at 3:08 pm to bg22
Unless I'm reading the tweets wrong, 60 games fully pro rated is equal to the most possible money the players could have made in the last offer. Any games more than 60 at the fully prorated amount will end up being more money to the players than any previous offer

65 is what I keep seeing from the talking heads on Twitter

Since Ken reworded his tweet, let's do this one more time...
Here's why 66 games works:
*12 games each vs 4 division opponents
*3 games each vs 4 interleague opponents
*6 games (home and home) vs interleague rival
quote:
Source: MLB proposal includes:
•60 games in 70 days
•Season starting July 19th/20th
•Full Prorated Salary
•Expanded Playoffs in 2020 and 2021
•Waiving of any potential grievance
quote:
One more time: Union would figure to counter, perhaps with goal of settling at 65 games. With full pro-rated salaries, that number would get players ~40 percent of their original projected earnings for 2020. Per @JaysonSt, 66 games might work best for scheduling purposes.

Yeah, that was a pretty good breakdown for 66
Only way I can see fair and balanced schedule occurring
No way one-third of a season will end with correct seedings, but should give every team that had a legitimate chance to win the WS playoff inclusion.

This is a Seattle mariners fans dream

My prediction: Astros win their second World Series and all the crybabies scream “Another Asterisks WS!!!”

Overall I just want some baseball but I pulled up standings from this last year at 60 games.
World champion Washington Nationals were 13/15 in the national league, St. Louis and Oakland on the outside and the rangers were in the al wildcard. 2018 the mariners led the AL west and the nl champion dodgers were outside of the playoffs
It’s a great example of why 162 is awesome but will be a fun novelty season

Lol expanded playoffs for a 55 game season. It’s going to be very weird.
Personally, I think expanded playoffs is a good idea with the short season.

@JonHeyman
Early word is players don’t love the 60 games and some are even calling it a proposal not the agreement owners see it as. Owners view it as an agreed-to deal with players’ option being to turn it down, whereupon they could get a 50-game mandated season as allowed by March 26 deal
Heyman so whatever. I'm not seeing the "when and where" tweets this afternoon though. Weird.

Sounds like they're negotiating face to face with Tony Clark but some players are still being piss ants about it despite getting their full proration.
I mean over the last 2 days they publicly came out to call Manfred's bluff about the mandated season. "We just want to play. We just want to play. When and where. What happened to 100% certain we'd play baseball?!"
MLB hasn't yet gone the nuclear route of a mandated season, they've gone back to the table to open a dialogue with Clark and we appear to be as close to a mutual agreement as we've been through any of this and we're still getting the "non-starter" leaks from the players side to the media.
If they're going to publicly call Manfred's bluff, they deserve to have their own bluff called on the "when and where" lie.

Hell all the players are posting "when and where" after some of those same players saying they wouldn't play due to Covid-19. It's all pandering right now

quote:it's almost like, I dont know, the league isnt just setting a schedule like they told them to do and now want to instead negotiate an agreement that wouldn't lead to a grievance being filed largely built on getting the players to agree to a certain number of games in exchange for an expanded playoff

Its almost like you are comparing apples to oranges here on this topic which is so surprising
