BREAKING: I’m hearing from sources that @IndianaBase head coach Chris Lemonis will be the next head coach at @HailStateBB, and that top #HailState assistant Jake Gautreau will stay on staff. If that doesn’t change, I really like that duo.

Clearly, John Cohen got himself an excellent recruiter, and with Jake, that’s a terrific recruiting staff. Lemonis recruited all those Omaha teams for #Louisville. Long-term, I really like that staff.

Gary Henderson could be a hot commodity now.

Not a bad hire. Not what the state fans were hoping for I’m sure but not bad.

I’d have probably just stuck with Henderson over this guy

The D1 baseball guys think he's about absolutely clean up on the recruiting trail, especially with Gautreau alongside.

It makes me wonder if Hendo just doesn’t want to be an HC anymore, because I can’t imagine Cohen not offering him.

They'll probably hire a career assistant from Tennessee next.

I thought I read a quote from him saying he would love to have the job

I agree and think it would be a good hire. He recruited all the talent that Pierce won with at Tulane in 15 and 16

That’s possible. I was just referring to some stuff I heard when he was in consideration for some other HC jobs as State’s pitching coach.

I’m curious who Lemonis will take with him to State too. One of my former coworker’s kids just got hired on with IU last year and played under him at UofL.

Nah, he was basically lobbying for the job every chance he got during this postseason run.

It's pretty clear though Cohen had this lined up for a while and was just waiting for the season to end.

Big time programs go out and find big time coaches. They don’t promote from within.

That’d be valid if Henderson hadn’t been an SEC HC before.

What Henderson did with this team, considering the circumstances, was pretty big time.

Whatever decision Cohen made though, it would be a risk. In a sense, Henderson taking MSU as far as he did was the worst thing that could've happened. If they don't walk off FSU and go 0-2 in the regional, not keeping Henderson would've been the easy call. Now, if this Lemonis hire doesn't work out, MSU fans will be wishing they had Henderson back.

This hire is extremely underwhelming.

Cohen still wants his hands in the program. Can't find an established coach that's going to be okay with that.

Overreacting to this run and disregarding his time at Kentucky would be dumb

The interim coach just withstood a shitstorm and overachieved and they don’t give him a second look? Interesting
