Zimmer is pouting because they drafted Carlson in the 5th round and now that was a wasted pick

Dude lost a game he worked and coached his arse off to win because a fricking kicker couldn’t do his ONLY JOB in three attempts.

I don’t blame him one bit.

Zimmer should be mad at himself. He's apparently terrible at evaluating kickers

5th rounders often don't make the team. And he upgraded the kicker position immensely.

So why is he pouting? Other than this kicker costing him a win against a division rival?

Lie to me and tell me that he was a great kid and that it was a tough decision.

Multiply a half a win by two and you get a whole big bag of shut the frick up about half wins.

Nerd.

Most coaches don't like having to cut players. They know they work hard and if they aren't good enough, then they just aren't good enough.

It's fine that he felt he had to cut the kicker due to his performance... but most decent people wouldn't act so cold about a guy.

You can be truthful without being doucheful. I just made that up.

Good Kickers should walk in FA about as often as QBs do. I’m always amazed when teams cut veteran kickers who have been money for year to roll the dice on a rookie, which only seems to work out like 15 percent of the time.

There was a tweet today that Robbie Gould is something like 53/55 FGs since the bears cut him, meanwhile the bears FG kickers in that time were 36/48 or something like that during that span.

The cost analysis or a good kicker is way off

A simple "we believed we hd a chance to improve our team through exploring other personnel" would have sufficed.

It ain't the end of the world but it just shows a lack of leadership from the coach.

I've followed hard leaders who weren't "nice" at all and I loved working for them. They also busted their arse to be as open an accessible to everyone in the building and gave solid advice to everyone who asked.

People do t like following leaders when the leaders show that all they consider beneath them as assets, no matter how true that is. That doesn't drive ambition and other stuff

Man, I can’t imagine being a few months in to my first job out of college, trying my best but failing on a project, then being fired and having it be national news.

But I also don’t get paid NFL kicker money so frick it

Oh good lord. Those two sentences show a lack of leadership, despite years of success coaching at the highest level?

ETA: google mike zimmer and respect / leader and get back with me. Lack of respect and leadership aren't problems of his. He a straightforward, no bullshite coach.

Someone on the OT said it best that firing someone should be the hardest thing a manager ever does.

How many times on Hard Knocks have we seen coaches talk to players they're cutting and be frank but but genuine.

Soft peddling coach speak crap will never be Zimmer.

And that's a good thing. Its part of what took him so long to get a HC gig-- and part of the reason of why he's one of the best in the business.

My view of zimmer has definitely changed more negatively after watching that clip. Will definitely be rooting against his team from here on. Total a-hole move.
