This case is as least as much of an indictment on USA Gymnastics as it is on Michigan State.
Very true. A lot of this happened at the US training center.
We're all used to seeing these 2 people (the owners of the ranch that houses the training center) during the Olympics. I wonder how much they knew.

Katie Strang who writes for The Athletic is doing some tremendous work covering the story, and the MSU president, Lou Anna Simon, is starting to feel the heat.

Just tuned in to the first impact statement that I've had a chance to hear this week and it just so happened to be Jordyn Wieber, who won gold in the 2012 games.
Very tough to hear.
Very tough to hear.

The more I read into this the more horrified I become. This is just absolutely awful.

What do you do to punish? Do you put the football and basketball team on probation for something they had nothing to do with? Penn State football got off pretty easy when you consider what happened. Those are the only sports that punishments matter.

Same here. I just listened to one of the victims stories and was horrified. Top brass heads need to roll from any entity associated with Nasser.

Dominique Moceanu wrote a book that trashed the Karolyi's pretty bad. Said that they were very abusive (not sexually but she talked about having her face slammed into a phone)
Also talked about how they pretty much ran US gymnastics and would black ball anyone that talked out against them and would constantly change the rules to make sure their hand picked people would be promoted.
US gymnastics has been having a problem for a while, glad it is finally coming to light.

Aly Raisman went in dry on Larry today and USA Gymnastics and USAOC.

quote:
"Larry, you do realize now that we, this group of women you so heartlessly abused over such a long period of time, are now a force, and you are nothing."
As Raisman said this, she raised her head high and looked Nassar square in the eyes, her expression conveying both utter fury and absolute dignity.
"You already know you're going away to a place where you won't be able to hurt anybody ever again. But I am here to tell you that I will not rest until every single last trace of your influence on this sport has been destroyed, like the cancer it is."

Yeah defending the guy who was literally raping America’s sweethearts is pretty fricking low.

Also a pretty prominent university in Big 10 country though.

Thank you for recommending these articles. They were extremely well-written... and they have raised a lot more questions in my mind about how this creature could inhabit womens' gymnastics world for so long.

Damn, that's wifey material.
For those who are interested, here's the full video of Aly Raisman's statement. It is powerful:

That was awesome. She tore into all of those who needed it. Great job.

It's too bad the BoT has given her a vote of confidence. So she isn't feeling the heat on that end. At least the student newspaper is doing their part

The school's tone deaf response

• Awful situation
• The optics of it all are bad, the blindness of the University in haphazardly managing attendance at the trial/sentencing and then issuing a “vote of confidence” for Lou Anna Simon. Just stupid. You have a media shite show in your hands, but let’s go with a vote to say the lady running the school is top notch.
• Expectations are too high that the liberal institution of MSU will “do” anything about this relative to Simon. I hope the pressure will remain in her to leave or be dismissed. It’s not like she is new in her role as she has been the President since 2005.
• where are all of the #metoo people and the ladies in pink p-hats? Here is a cause you should be pursuing/protesting.

I don't know much about what happened, but read the part you quoted. The school president heard about the complaint and knew that the cops were investigating it. If the cops didn't find anything to charge him with, do you still fire the guy just because? This isn't an easy situation.

This..... The whole story is just sickening however I don't see how you can punish other sports at the school.....

Although I didn’t see the exact quote, I believe Tom izzo made some comments in support of the school president and didn’t condemn nasser that have caused a bit of a stir.
