Only difference between pine tar on a cold night and rosin on a hot day is rosin is legal.

The announcers start immediately saying how pine tar should be legal. "baseball should wants a better grip on the ball." Finally one says

That's exactly what Aaron Boone said in the ESPN broadcast.

Funny thing is David Roidtiz has been cheating for a dozen years now and the league just turns it's head the other way.

Can the major league pitcher, that is posting in this thread, weigh in on the effects of pine tar for a pitcher at that level? I know it's easy for us slap dicks to say it's not a big deal, but these same people don't realize what professional pitchers can do with a scuffed baseball.

I mean, Farrell said after the game that players want pitchers to have pine tar so they can have control.

Has Harold Reynolds or any other black baseball voice weighed in yet?

He was asked:

"But you knew it was illegal?"

He responded:

"Yeah"

End of debate

it truly is just a grip thing. MLB balls are just terrible. The mud they rub them up with dries and become basically a chalk. Some places (Ari, Col and a few others) are damn near impossible to pitch at (and dangerous) without something to help your grip.

Sunscreen & rosin, pine tar, and shaving cream are all solely for grip. Should be legal, and they basically are so long as you don't Pineda it.

It's when you start evolving into other stuff that actually makes the ball move unnaturally that it becomes cheating (to most people in the game). I've actually seen very very little of this either through naivety or it's become a lost art.

I guess he thought he was darker than he actually was.

Do you think Pineda made it too obvious? Or did Farrell overreact?

If grip is such a necessary thing, how come there isn't a players union movement to change the balls? I'm a little confused if it's such a necessary evil as a pitcher and the balls in certain fields make it such a hazard.

In Japan you can just take the ball out of the wrapper and play with it.

As Farrell stated after the game.. It was so obvious he had to say something.. I don't think you will find to many detractors of that opinion, especially knowing how obvious he made it last time they played. Be discreet and no one cares, make it obvious and you are either oblivious, dumb or cocky.. I think Pineda is just oblivious.
