I need to hear Hugh Freeze’s opinion on this
quote:
"I love Michael Oher," Freeze told Auburn reporters Thursday. "He's like part of our family. I love the Tuohys. I think it's sad, and I certainly don't claim to understand all the ins and outs of adoption, conservatory, all of that. But I know what I witnessed, and I witnessed a family that totally took in a young man. And I think without that, there is no story."

No good deed goes unpunished.
Tuohys paid for him to have a full-time tutor at Ole Miss because he was so woefully cognitively behind.
He. apparently got sick and tired of the Blind Side narrative and Tuohy fame that he put out his own book giving some praise to them, some to a lot of people but most of it to himself.
Dude probably doesn't realize how close he was to working lifelong at one of the Tuohy's fast-food joints.

I don't think the Tuohy's were nefarious with the whole movie deal and don't buy the story of the "white saviors" trying to get rich off of the poor black star athlete by stealing movie profits from him.
But is it possible that the Tuohy's wanted the social credits by claiming they essentially "adopted" Oher and brought him into the family, while also trying to protect the future inheritances of the biological kids and the conservatorship was the path of least resistance in accomplishing that?

However, it was always interesting to me that within two years of Oher graduating from Briarcrest High School, Freeze was on staff at Ole Miss.
Wut lol

Heartwarming to see them behaving like a real family.

But Oher's agent, who would receive movie contract and payment notices, is listed as Debra Branan, a close family friend of the Tuohys and the same lawyer who filed the 2004 conservatorship petition
Then this all falls on him for just being oblivious to what’s going on in his life. You know that little about your financial situation?

Where did all that money go? It didn't go to the Touhys.
"When all else fails, follow the money.
Michael Oher claims the Tuohy family made millions off their conservatorship of him after the Hollywood blockbuster “The Blind Side,” but an examination of the former Baltimore Ravens offensive tackle’s career earnings puts this developing situation in a new light.
Oher signed a total of four contracts during his eight-year NFL career.
Spotrac and Over the Cap are a pair of leading websites which track salaries of individual athletes and payrolls of professional sports teams.
The two sites each added up Oher’s career earnings, and while their numbers are off slightly, they both concluded the former first-round draft pick made more than $34 million in the NFL.
Spotrac puts it at $34,506,875 while Over the Cap’s number is $34,170,000."

The more comes out, the more he sounds like a dumba$$. Why didn't he end this conservatorship years ago? A grown man with a wife and 4 kids doesn't need a conservatorship.

Probably forgot about it. It’s not like the Touhys were exercising any rights relative to it. They were not involved in his NFL negotiations. You’d think he had a financial advisor, but if he did, that person either did a poor job or he didn’t listen.

He didn’t forget about it. He wrote a book in 2011 where he talks about the conservatorship

quote:Exactly. Those players made it without the Tuohys & Oher ( an 18 years old athletic prodigy) makes it without them as well. Some people have a " saviors complex" & will dislocate their shoulders Patting themselves on the back.
. There's thousands of players like Oher. There's nothing special about him (relative to elite athletes) outside of this heartwarming story.
There's nothing particularly special / movie worthy about the Tuohys or this " heartwarming story" other than the color of the skin of those who moved in an athletic prodigy at age 18. Oher now sees this movie for what it was & that weird " mom" & " dad" situation for what it was.

That's all fair. Truth always lies somewhere in the middle. But the truth definitely leans toward the Tuohys big time.
And of course, they would be fools to adopt a grown man they barely know and all the financial implications that entails down the line. I mean that's like a multi-millionaire who marries a stripper in California instead of just having her as a GF.
