If you can't hit a softball with power to anywhere on the field you weren't that good at baseball fwiw.

but I don't understand playing softball as anything other than a vehicle for hanging out with friends and drinking. If you take softball this seriously, you need to find a baseball league.
It's pretty hard to find an adult baseball league, that doesn't require you to have college experience. I play softball because i loved baseball and its the closest thing i can find to it.
It wouldn't be so bad if they wouldn't allow these softball bats that are basically fungo bats. I like any league that puts a limit on HR, makes it more like baseball.

i can hit to all fields. if i go up there and swing, i'm hitting middle. my uncle drilled hitting the middle into my psyche when i was a kid.

You'd be surprised how popular softball is. It's basically all former baseball players. Not all 300lb men with beer guts

Adam Dunn occasionally plays at my softball fields. He goes up the middle, although its up the middle and 400 feet in the air.

That's a good, standard rule to just prevent it from being an endless procession of homers. Put the ball in play. I've literally never heard of the up the middle rule, but I don't play tournament softball. I play on two teams which are essentially an excuse for grown men who have kids to have a night out where we just hang out without too much adult responsibility.
If I wanted a rules argument, I would've stayed at work.

Ya in tournaments homerun = out is def needed.

Well then you are just a billy bad arse if you are ok with playing pitcher and having shite lined up the middle at you.

One guy in our league gets pissed when our team starts taking walks. He thinks softball should just be a hit-a-thon.

Sounds like my brother. When I play softball, it is always rec. I just go out there to bullshite with people and have fun. If I don't hit a HR, I'm trotting to first. No pounding out doubles for damn sure.

I'm not surprised at how popular softball is. Doesn't change the fact that whining over people actually playing the game is chicken shite.
You want to improve safety? Regulate the bats. Don't fundamentally change the way you're supposed to play the game.

Oh i do that but that just cause i like to run and slide before i get to old.
I just treat it like baseball, i mean this guy is the one who casually swings at balls so he can get called strikes and not walk to get more pitches. Then again he's giant and slow so he probably doesn't enjoy running.

See...that's just misinformed. When the home runs are gone, middle is open. Home runs keep guys out of the middle. To those saying its no big deal, field your position...meet me somewhere and I'll bring some guys that will have you change your mind in a few pitches. Better yet, I'll get a video to show you how idiotic your claims are.

Not a billy bad arse. Just not one for pussification of a sport that requires all 9 (or 10 in softball) fielders playing their damn position and not bitching about it.

Well if its a homerun inever considered it up the middle? What's misinformed about a home run limit though?

It's not the way to regulate the game. You see waaaaaaaay more middle shots in D/E than you do in B and above. When there are home runs, guys stay out of the middle. Also, guys know if the batter doesn't know what he's doing and accidentally goes middle an if a guy goes up there with intent.

quote:me too. But a couple of years ago I hit a double, trotted in to 2nd and the idiot left fielder threw the ball at the bag after I was already there and the SS didnt catch it. Hit me straight in the mouth.

I stayed in the game, but I had about an inch long split in my mouth
