8 seed South Alabama (19-15) plays 2 seed Louisiana (25-7) for the Sun Belt championship and a berth in the NCAA tournament tonight at 6pm on ESPN2.
South Alabama last won the Sun Belt Conference tournament in 2006, and last played in the NCAA tournament in 2008 as an at-large.
Louisiana last won the Sun Belt Conference tournament in 2014, and last played in the NCAA tournament in 2014.
Go Jags!!

Why’s South a -1.5 point favorite?

Mid Major Conference Tournament Championships are some of the best games in March.
That Liberty vs Kennesaw game yesterday afternoon was electric. I wish more mid major conferences would abandon the idea of the neutral site.

Because they are better? South Alabama was only a 1 pt underdog vs 1 seed Southern Miss too.

Go Jags!!! My undergrad alma mater. My senior year in 2000, ULOL won in the Sun Belt Championship on a last second shot. Vindication time.

I think I’ll make the drive over to Pensacola after work today. It’s less than an hour and should be a really great game. Wife graduated from USA and I’m from south of Lafayette and all my family follows ULL.

Have they played each other this year at all?
I know nothing about S. Alabama, but I've been to a few Cajuns game this year. They are pretty good. Probably one of the better UL teams I've seen in a while.

Did South get some injured players back or something? Seems odd they are the eight seed and a 1.5 point favorite..

Ull was 2-0 against USA this year

USA waxed USM twice. They must have gotten a star player back or something. They’re the 8 seed.

No, just put it all together and started playing better.

South has won 12 of their last 14 games but one of those losses was to the Cajuns in Lafayette.

Hmm. You think so?
UL - 13-5 SBC - 25-7 Overall
USA - 9-9 SBC - 19-14 Overall
1-14 @ South Al
UL 79 USA 76
2-24 @ UL
UL 74 USA 64
Not sure what metrics you use to show USA is better

South Alabama had a really tough non conference schedule and lost almost every game but they were close except Florida Atlantic. Started slow in conference play but have gotten hot at the right time.
Louisiana is the better team and a tough matchup for the Jags. I’m surprised with the line.
Jags are playing great so who knows.

Well, Ken Pom, for starters.

A 2nd tourney appearances in 13 years might buy Bobby Marlin an extension.

While I am not a big fan of Bob Marlin, he is the winningest coach in Sunbelt and UL Lafayette history.

That is one. USA @ 92 (+7.98) vs UL @ 95 (+7.91)
Not sure I would take that over ULL beating USA twice and having a much better conference record but that's just me.

Jags are hot, but don’t match up well with Cajuns personnel. Jags are going to have to bring it on both ends of the floor. USA! USA! USA! #SIYM
