If this was any other coach who delivered the joke in the same poor, humourless manor it would be more innocuous.

Brian Kelly has killed a college student at Notre Dame already, so it's a really poor joke to make

John McKay was the GOAT…

Following a Buccaneers loss in their early seasons, McKay was asked what he thought of his offense's "execution." He replied, "I'm in favor of it."

After the Buccaneers won their first regular season game against the New Orleans Saints during the 1977 season 33–14, McKay mused, "Three or four plane crashes and we're in the playoffs."

After a 42-0 loss to the Steelers: "We didn't block but we made up for it by not tackling."

McKay and Spurrier are 1A and 1B as far as wittiest coaches.

Also John McKay...

It would be funny if he hadn't done it once already and gotten away with it.

Are you kidding me? He's the head coach at Notre Dame.

You might be on to something there. Notre Dame is Catholic. People hate Catholics, so you might be right. They may have no problem with this whatsoever.

It was a poorly executed joke, and a forced one at that. At least McKay was given the set-up about his team's execution. Kelly delivered the set-up and the punchline.

He's just not the type of guy that should be cracking jokes in post-game interviews, especially after nearly losing to this frickin guy:
