Margaret Court rips Serena

Some real animosity here it seems. How long before Serena cries racism?

quote:
"Serena, I've admired her as a player," Court, 80, told Britain's Daily Telegraph in a rare interview. "But I don't think she has ever admired me."
quote:
"Serena has played seven years more than I did," Court said. "I finished in my early 30s. People forget that I took two years out. I first retired ... when I was 25, thinking I would never return to tennis.
quote:
"I got married, had a baby, but then had one of my best years, winning 24 out of 25 tournaments."
quote:
"I came back after two babies," she said. "After having the first baby, I won three out of the four Slams." She added that "Serena hasn't won a Slam since" having a baby.
quote:
"I would love to have played in this era. I think it's so much easier," she said.
quote:
"I thought it was bad that Williams didn't mention her opponent more when she spoke," Court said. "We were taught to honor our opponent. We respected one another."

Damn she slaughtered her, racism coming in hot

Read the full interview yesterday, absolutely didn't see anything out of line except it doesn't toe the "Serena is the GOAT" story line pushed by current media.
PS I watched King Richard last week and thought overall enjoyable watch until last word statement at end of movie.
"Many consider her the greatest to have ever played" Intentionally leaving out "woman".

Well she is right in the sense in what she is saying. As a woman she wasn’t given shite in her time. She took off multiple times to have kids because it was expected of her as well

When is someone gonna come out and say the obvious...as good as Serena was, her fat arse kept her from doing more. My God, last week she had to be pushing 225.
She got beat because she's slow and fat, not because her skills weren't there

Dude she is 40….. Tennis is a sport women are usually done for at the low 30s max

The talent pool has always been much shallower in women's sports than men's. Could you imagine how shallow the talent pool was for women's tennis in the 1960's?
Margaret Court clearly had talent relative to her peers at the time, but older folks need to understand that athletes today are way better and it's way more competitive. Margaret Court claiming she'd love to play today because it's way easier is just wrong.
I just have to be 100% honest.. Serena's career is more impressive no matter how much I dislike her.

This just comes off as sour grapes by Court.

This. For Court to sit here and say with a straight face that it would be easier for her to win in today's game is laughably stupid.

Serena won her last Slam at age 36. Court was 31 when she won her last. I bet Serena would have won a few Slams after having a kid if she was 25 at the time.

Prove me wrong. She is a pig now. That's the only reason she lost last week.
This has been an issue for many years going back. Whitlock (I think) went on record.
40 or 20, healthy diet is a choice.
She has the best skillet of anyone ever. And she won for years. No taking that away at all.
She would still be dominant is she was in better health

And, I believe she was pregnant at the time.
Serena is the GOAT. I would love to have seen Court's return of serve with Serena on the other side of the net.
FWIW, Watch Being Serena on HBO.

A lot of y’all have no clue about Margaret court. She was 5’9” herself and unbelievably athletic. She dominated at the net for a woman and overpowered everyone. With modern weights and training she would have been great in this era as well

Can you imagine how fat she’s about to get after giving up tennis?
