They may.

Their schedule allows for it.

I mean…it is weaker than what LSU faces.

Such is life.

It’s been 4 years and LSU has yet to finish a regular season in the top-12 of the CFP poll (including the 4-team playoff in 2022 and 2023). You can cope however you’d like.

Dude it's been 17 years how are you still hurt from that 2008 national championship. y'all literally just won one. no reason to still be crying about LSU.

I joined this site in high school as an OSU fan. I enrolled at ND in 2010 (coincidentally BK’s first year). I’m an ND fan and no longer an OSU fan but can’t change the name, which sometimes makes posting awkward, but can’t control that. (Also, ironically, Marcus Freeman was a player on that team.)

I know Brian Kelly’s strengths/weaknesses/pedigree better than any other poster on this site (including all LSU fans) since I followed him in depth for 12 seasons.

Regardless, as it relates to this thread subject about Freeman/Kelly, I can assure you every ND fan is thrilled to have Freeman and I don’t know anyone that would choose Kelly over him.

LSU fan- Freeman only won in year 3 because of BK’s players!

He took over a program that was just outside the playoff in Kelly’s last year. Kelly took over a program that played a bowl with only 39 scholarship players so not the same.

Also LSU fan- BK needs more time 4 years in because Coach O left the cupboard bare!

He definitely lives in a world of make believe I don’t know any LSU fans that even dislike Freeman. However, to date he has accomplished the same thing Kelly did at ND. Get to a NCG and lose to a better team. Kelly did it under the BCS so he didn’t have to win games to get there so we don’t know how he would have done. He also made 2 4 team playoffs. Last year ND was a 7 seed, so they would not have made the playoff under either of formats Kelly did at ND. So using last year to say “Freeman is better” at ND is what’s irrational. Time will tell however, he’s a young exciting coach so I understand ND fans being excited and don’t blame them. He could be a great one there

So did I, and I even started a thread on here in 2009 about Cincinnati’s chances of making the national title. LINK

Regardless, “following” is one thing. I watched literally every game he coached from 2010-2021. Admittedly, I’ve not watched most games he’s coached 2022-present, only big ones. But still, he is who he is: a pretty good CEO with a high floor, but not well-connected to his players, prone to game management mistakes, and not able to get his teams up for big games/against good opponents.

I really wanted him at Michigan in that Rich Rod/Hoke time period. But, the timing was never right. Once he went to ND, the Michigan culture would have always rejected him. If Moore crashes the car, I would take BK in Ann Arbor. But, it won't happen.

This is the 2nd post in the first link

The other 2 threads are just talking about the playoff run last year, someone saying the were lucky or pointing out Freeman lost to non P4 teams (fact check true) is not irrational hate and in no way represents “LSU fans”. You’re just making up a narrative probably because you hate LSU, not uncommon among the lesser schools/programs in the state

2 of those threads were started by Marcus Freeman supporters... just like this one.

just proves that the "haters" narrative is BS. we don't give a shite about Freeman, it's people like OP that keep bringing him up.

He was top of the wish list after the Bo P disaster, didn’t blame him for not wanting to join the Coach O sinking ship. Was hoping he’d come with Kelly as DC but alas he got the head job, so good for him. Seems like a pretty good coach and unlike BK likable

Back in the 80s I freaking hated Notre Dame, definitely rooted for the convicts but some where along the way, maybe when the got obliterated by Oregon State of all teams in a Fiesta Bowl they just became another program that I neither like nor dislike. Frankly I think remaining an independent is a net negative for them in the BCS/4TP era especially they pretty much had to go undefeated to have a chance.

We need to be honest and state facts. Freeman has accomplished more.

Kelly’s major bowl wins at ND: 0

Freeman’s major bowl wins: 2 (Sugar and Orange)

That’s already a big separator.

Kelly’s major bowl wins at LSU: still 0

Has nothing to do with Kelly, but Freeman may have been the secret to Luke Fickell.

I have no dog in this fight, but generally speaking, people on the rant do not like Freeman.

Now some will say it was a result of the media. Some will say it's because of their fans, who were talking shite at the time. But I have for sure noticed that.
Not that any of it matters.

Ok if we’re gonna be honest look at the whole picture. it’s not an apples to apples comparison last year there was a 12 team playoff and when Kelly was at Notre Dame there wasn’t. I mean Freeman beat a 2 loss UGA and Penn State, in those bowls not exactly 2012 Bama or 2018 Clemson. Quality of opponents matters.

2012 Notre Dame was #1 in the BCS so assume they would be the 1 seed, who would they play in a major bowl (where last year they played UGA)? No one as good as that Bama team that’s for sure. 2018 there were the 3 seed so they aren’t starting with Clemson.

Please note this is not a knock on Freeman, he may turn out to be a great coach and much better of the 2, but saying he accomplished more to date is mostly sour grapes Kelly haters. Things definitely look great for Freeman and Notre Dame.
