With all of the money coming in from the ESPN/SECN deal, it's really not that far out of reach.

Example: Univ. of Florida added women's lacrosse a few years back by simply taking all of the revenue generated from 1 home non-conference football game: tickets, tv, concessions, parking, apparel, etc. The sunk that income into building a 1st class playing facility, hired a top flight coaching staff, bought all the gear, uniforms, & apparel (which isn't more than $100,000), & set aside a budget to run the program for 5 years. Since then they've been running on donations & all of that, just like any other program.

Within the 1st 5 years, the team qualified for the post-season in 4 of those seasons & have hosted a number of post season games.

The program & the way it got started for varsity sport on campus is a quality road map.

Adding both men's & women's lacrosse brings in upwards of 35-45 student athletes, mostly from middle class to high class backgrounds. So, those that don't earn a scholarship (which lacrosse only gets 12.6 for men's & 12 for women's) are either going to get some academic scholly money or pay the out of state tuition (considering 70% of the rosters would likely come from out of state/the northeast & Canada). On top of that, the graduation rates of lacrosse players is as close to 100% as you can get. The alumni foundation practically builds itself.

Every SEC school has a soccer facility (I'm pretty sure all 14 do) that can be retrofit to house lacrosse. You'd really just need to add a couple of lacrosse locker rooms, film room, & coaching offices. Weight rooms are easily sharable with scheduling. The cost to get the SEC to start lacrosse conference wide, has never been more affordable & worth it.

. Here in South Carolina, Clemson or South Carolina doesn't have a lacrosse team but a number of DII schools do

Furman actually has a D1 men's team. They are in the Southern Conference with Mercer, Jacksonville, VMI, High Point, Richmond, Bellarmine & Air Force.

I forgot about Furman. Come to think about it, I think Limestone plays exhibition games against them every year or every other year.

oth South Carolina & Clemson have teams, fairly good ones. No, they aren't NCAA D1/Varsity. They're MCLA D1 & quite good. Both run as a virtual varsity, like most of the Top 40-50 squads at that level.

I knew they had something but nothing on the NCAA level. Looking at both of their schedules, they play a lot of other similar teams across the south and it would be pretty cool if those schools jumped to the NCAA level. I don't know what the reasons are that more schools are not picking up lacrosse as a varsity sport. Is it money, school politics, etc. Really, I think it could be a good draw (would take some time) but it is more entertaining than some of the other small varsity sports.

Limestone has been a quality program for years. Something about that campus draws lots of northern players to play this glorious game. You'll never see the D1 schools takes on the D2/D3s of the world, outside of any fall ball or exhibition play. The risk/reward just isn't there.

Yeah...Limestone has been the cornerstone for lacrosse in South Carolina. They were the first and I believe it influenced other schools like Newberry, Coker, North Greenville, and maybe Furman to take interest in it. Limestone is a very small school. A good portion of the enrollment is athletes. With that said, it amazes me that a small college in South Carolina can have a elite program and draw outstanding talent from the North and mid-Atlantic. As far as playing D1 schools, I know they have played Furman and UNC in exhibition games. It would be nice to see them play a game that actually counts. However, I wonder how Limestone would do if they could or want to move up to the D1 level.

Plenty of lacrosse airs on the ESPN family of networks/ESPN3, Big Ten Network, & also the Pac-12 Network. Enjoy

I guess I don't pay a lot of attention to it. Honestly, I only watch ESPN only if there is a game or team I am interested in. The other networks, I just forget that I have those channels.

I played low end DI many years ago and we played Limestone, Pfieffer and some other D2 schools but no one does it anymore so I think the NCAA doesn't allow it. Seems weird since it happens in others sports, but trust me those SoCon schools would do it if they could.

MCLA is big here in La. LSU, ULL and for the first year, Southeastern all have lacrosse. We have sons' former teammates and friends play at ULL and at SLU.

CBSSports sometimes shows lacrosse as well. On the ESPN channels it's usually on ESPNU and then the conference channels B1GNetwork does a very good job with it, they have solid announcers and decent camera work.

I avoid ESPN programming except for actual contests. Just search your guide channel using "College Lacrosse" and it'll come up. There's a LOT on, actually.

Don't forget La Tech, RedPop.

Tulane & Nicholls teeter back & forth between having an active club program as well. I recently learned that ULM had a team for a few years until 2 or 3 seasons ago.

As long as the HS game continues to grow, LA colleges will have teams that strengthen.

Excellent. Didn't even know about Tech or NLU...uh...ULM ;)
Son only played three years in H.S. He may try when he goes to Uni. if it's at the MCLA level.

This final has been great. Best 2 teams, rain, packs of shots, lots of hits, & a close game.

You're right, what an enjoyable game.
The Buckeye 'keeper was distraught, but he should be proud, he played a good ball game, as they all did.

Buckeye fast-break was effective and exciting.
I began to doubt that we'd see a Matt Rambo goal, and what a headline would THAT have been had the Terps won without it!

If you told me the Terps would miss 20+ shots & still win the title, I'd have bet the house against you.
