MLB is dead

attendance, TV ratings, and Streaming ratings are all going up year over year.

No one under 30 in this country gives a damn about MLB, aside from the markets of the teams.

not according to the ratings

quote:

MLB’s national television partners registered double digit growth in the Adult 18-34 category including ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball (+12%), FS1 (+24%) and MLB Network (+36%). In addition, FOX registered a +9% increase in the 18-34 demo.

About as stupid as comparing 8 years playing to TV coverage accessibility. Titles such as oldest sport and past time don’t mean much today when you look at World Series TV ratings

well i wasnt responding to that, i was responding to the "baseball is a dying sport" when every bit of information says the opposite including participation in youth, HS and college baseball.

now the black out shite is dumb af. Sorry but I shouldnt have astros games blacked out in Lake Charles on a damn weeknight. It's not feasible for 99% of people to drive 2 hours to the game on a weeknight.

the blackout rules are maybe the worst in sports.

El Paso is 746 miles from Houston and is blacked out of Astros games.

Teams they are NOT blacked out of (driving distance)

Arizona (431 miles)
Denver (636 miles)
San Diego (726 miles)
soon to be Las Vegas (730 miles)

People who live in Hawaii are subject to blackouts of every single team in California

the regional network all but collapsed
streaming will be the option going forward especially with ESPN moving on, they would rather show the Savannah Bananas

It’s almost like if you actually put your product on tv, people would watch it. Amazing!

The blackout crap is a massive problem and just so archaically stupid. Just a really pointless self inflicted wound for building more fans.

MLB has a tv deal with ESPN. That will end after this year due to the shitty coverage.

I can go to my ESPN app and pull up almost any NCAA baseball game. It should be the same for MLB.

I've debated on getting MLB.tv, but I'll just continue watch NCAA baseball and whatever MLB games are on national tv.

I’d be paying like $10 per baseball game

Make that math work for me real quick.

160 games

$100.00 for the season

But you are paying $10.00 per game? Because you are only going to watch 10 games? Sounds like you aren't a rangers fan anyways

Unless you are an Astros or Rangers fan living in Louisiana you should, it is fantastic and way better than watching a national broadcast. It works out for me as a Mets fan because I am very rarely subject to blackouts. If they would do away with blackouts it would be the perfect sports streaming service.

They have the main plan where you get all of the games in MLB (aside from blackouts and nationally televised games) but you can also just pay much cheaper for just your team and you can also just pay monthly and cancel anytime.

MLB.tv sir.

Easiest thing I subscribe to. Once playoff basketball is over, we have a baseball game on every night at the house all summer.

underrated aspect of it is if you cant watch cause you are out and about, you also get the radio broadcasts for both teams and can still listen.

That’s a nice feature. I’ll cut in the radio broadcasts when I’m doing thing around the house and not able to watch it

Just think how much baseball I was able to watch in the 60’s and 70’s. We didn’t have 700 different options and channels. Could mlb do better?? For sure. But be lucky you have more choices now than shin I was a kid…

Bruh if you are complaining about $100 for 160 games over the course of 5 months I don't think you can throw around the poverty word

Easy if you don't want to watch the game don't pay for it. Just watch the nationally televised games. I love throwing the ranger games on during the summer when I don't have anything else going on.

I can watch all 82 stars games (minus national) on the same streaming service for free. The rangers thank you for your donation though

I do want to watch the games, but I’m not paying to do. Extremely simple concept

Hockey and baseball in terms of popularity are not the same.

They just want people to watch Hockey.

They don't need people to watch the baseball games. They are already popular enough.

You are comparing apples to oranges.

I did too. I'm able to get all of the Ranger games over here in Louisiana for $100. We used to get them with cable on Fox Southwest, then Bally, but the cable company quit Bally halfway thru last season. I quit watching MLB when that happened.

You going to quit watching Stars games when they start charging for them?
