If you are an old (and I use the term literally, I'm 63) Saints fan, you learned early to pick a backup team, and usually because of a particular player. When I was a kid in the 70s I picked the Chiefs because I really liked Len Dawson and Elmo Wright (because of that dumb touchdown celebration he had). I also felt like I had to like the Bengals because the were Tigers like LSU though I was not really a big LSU fan yet but they were the state school.

I have migrated across teams, as I got older I liked the Raiders because I just liked the brutal style of play. Now with the Saints kind of sucking again, I keep up with Joey B and that Kid Jayden so I pull for their teams when not playing the Saints. I also keep up with the Vikings a little because my long-time best friend and best man at my wedding back in the early 90s has been a Vikings fan his whole life. But the Saints are my first love in football and always will be, my LSU fandom is the only thing that surpasses that now, though it hasn't always.

But none of that is switching fandom.
