Is Smith the son of Former Astros pitcher Dave Smith ? They share the same jersey number (45).

Has to be, there can't be too many Dave Smiths around.

I’m thinking we aren’t seeing all of the story.

I’m sure Vandy kids are saints tho

He could have lobbed dildos at the Vandy dugout and he'd still be less trashy or classless than Vandy.

I am sure my opinion will not be like most, but I think this was made a bigger deal than it was.

It's competition, sometimes it's hard to control your emotions. Vandy's bench might have been jawin at him, he gets the strikeout and he just had an emotional reaction.

I watched the game. People are saying "it was karma because Vandy game back and won". I think Vandy wins that game either way, but I am a fan of a player who gets into it... Sometimes I think that can affect your opponent. Get them frustrated.

Of course I can see why people think it crossed the line, but players go at it with each other during games, you just don't hear it and you never know if it's a reaction to what a Vandy player told him.

As long as it stays inside the game, I don't have a problem with what he did.

That was awesome. He throws a hard ball for a mostly free ride in college. Let him have some fun and talk some shite
No fricking shite. And if I were to guess you'll find a pretty good cross between the people bitching about this and the people who would be ok with beaning a player.

He was letting the Vandy player know how he felt about their whole team getting a full scholarship while he and his Louisville teammates only got 25%

1) He is a fool for doing this while pitching in the CWS with a ton of HD cameras focused in.
2) I didn't like it at all and was glad Vandy won
3) You couldn't see what the batter did or didn't say. In the following events you could lip read that the Vandy players had some choice words (so it isn't like they are complete saints).
4) Bottom line is that the pitcher will always have a camera zoomed in on them and should act accordingly.

Was it really that bad? I saw the video but didn’t see anything preceding it. Were Vanderbilt players acting stupid too?

It started way back in the 4th-5th when he was telling every Vandy player he struck out to sit their arse down. I’m sure things were said on the other end of it before it was said and done.

I don’t blame the kid for the emotion. It was trashy but he’s young and it’s a big stage. I do think it was a stupid move on McDonnell’s part to not pull him after his stunt. Him riling up the Vandy hitters and McDonnell leaving him in on nothing but emotion likely cost them the game.

Maybe he was sick of hearing the Whistler and became unhinged.

And of course, nobody is talking about Vandy apparently starting all this with their chirping first. Typical ESPN to not even mention that. Wish the cameras would have caught Vandy's actions as well

People at the game. Just the typical jawing back and forth. Cameras just happened to catch Smith

Not to mention I promise you the batter was saying the same kind of shite back, he just didn’t have a camera on him

And BTW, I did not like what Smith said at all. He has to know this game is on National television and will pickup just about anything he does/says. I loved his passion, but no need for that type of trash talk while the game is still being played. Did not like at all

NCAA should suspend him for the first few games next season. Also should get a game suspension for that shitty hairdo.
