Do you honestly think that people know what all of those stats mean?

I just had this conversation the other day. You have to forgive GN

Is he going to start winning World Series like Lincecum?

I dont know what anyone else knows. But I do know that Kershaw is pitching fine. And I know that literally every stat other than ERA points towards that conclusion.

Those are peripherals. K/9 is how many times he strikes batters out in every start if he were to pitch 9 innings in that start. BB/9 is the same but for walks. BABIP is the batting average of balls in play. It measures how many times a hit occurs every time the ball is put into play. HR/FB is a ratio of how many times a home run is hit for every fly ball thay he gives up. LOB% is left on base percentage. It measures the percentage of runners he leaves stranded. FIP is fielding independent of pitching. It's a measure of what his ERA would look like if he had league average results on balls in play. xFIP is adjusted FIP and is the same as FIP but takes into account other things like the ballpark in which the game was played in. Siera estimates what his ERA should look like by looking at his groundball rate, strikeout rate, and walk rate. I hope that helps

i guess now would be a bad time to mention Kershaw dealing 7 innings of shutout ball while fanning ten batters.
not to take away from your strong start there in the OP.
probably just a bump in the road for Kershaw, right?

just finished his 7th inning tonight, giving up only 5 hits and 2 runs. thanks my man for this thread

just finished 8 innings of shut out ball with only giving up one hit and striking out 11
Posted on 6/6/15 at 11:18 pm to goldennugget
Since this thread was made, in his last 3 starts, Kershaw has pitched 22 innings, striking out 28, walking only 3, giving up 10 hits and only 2 earned runs.
Yep, he's done.
ETA: West Coast beat me by 2 minutes...

Almost as good as lsuxman's "would you rather have tex or tek" thread 3 weeks into the 09 season.

He is looking pretty good his last 3 starts. And the Dodgers really need him and Grienke to be lights out this year with Ryu done. But the Dodgers just can't beat the Cards in a playoff Series. Kershaw will fold like Tony Romo come playoff time.

I just started venturing to the MSB, so maybe I'm missing an inside joke or something. But Kershaw has a K/9 of 11.26 - well above career average and BB/9 of 2.47 - worse than recent but still better than career avg, and an increased GB rate.
LD is slightly elevated, so maybe he's giving up a bit more hard contact. But the main issues are a reduced LOB%, a BABIP of .342, and a HR/FB three times his career rate.
His FIP/xFIP/Siera are 2.89/2.26/2.52.
He's been "unlucky." Or, as I prefer, still subject to the random nature of the game of baseball. Still more likely to dominate in his next start than anyone else. Just like Kluber before his last few starts.
The man is pitching fine. Maybe this year he's the 5-6 win pitcher of 2009-2012 rather than the 7-8 win pitcher of 2013-2014.
Either way, he's no Prior or Lincecum.
A lot of people would appreciate this sort of insight into the game on the MSB but don't waste your time when the OP is goldennugget.

You really are ignorant and too easy to get a rise out of. Thats why you felt the need to bump the thread endlessly.
Surely a catcher that bats sub .250 is better than one of the premier hitters in the league(at that time).
