I turned on the tv for lunch and saw Nicaragua and DR playing. Nicaragua has a kid throwing 83mph which is equivalent to 108 MLB pitch. Just insane to see a 12 year old throwing that hard. I know there’s been some flamethrowers over the past years but still incredible.

Having 12 year olds throw form a 46 foot mound is braindead stupid. Dumbest thing about little league. They should be at 50 feet which is what every other organization goes to at 11 years old

my son threw 78. i did see one kid throw 82. there was very little contact.

I never believe these equivalents. Any idea how those are determined? Do they really mean Ohtani would have a tough time catching up to a heater from little 12 yr old Pablo from the DR?

Yes. That's what it means.
Taking pitches and bunting is likely the best strategy.

It means reaction time
83mph from 46 feet has the same reaction time as 108mph from 60’6”
So yes anyone would struggle to hit that, but spin rate and pitch variation would still matter

When my son was playing 12u a little over a year ago, mid 70's was as fast as he saw and that was at majors level. He played on 50 foot mounds, I can't imagine what 83 looks like from 46 feet.

They use USA bats because they are safer options with less exit velocity than USSSA bats, but pitch from 46ft. Like previously said, it should be at least 50ft. Also at 12, you should be playing with regular baseball rules. Closed bases at 9, I get it, kids are learning how to pitch, but at 12 it makes zero sense.
