LIV Golf is moving forward with its plan to take a new business model to potential investors despite a report that the league is laying groundwork for potential bankruptcy in the U.S. if it doesn't find new financing beyond this season.
Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, which has funded the breakaway circuit since its inception in 2022, announced on April 30 that it will not do so beyond this season.
Axios reported earlier this week that LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil is seeking $250 million to keep the league alive. According to that report, O'Neil is projecting that the league will be profitable in two years. He had previously said it would take 10 years for the league to turn a profit.
Bloomberg reported that LIV Golf is considering relocating its headquarters to the U.S., where bankruptcy restructuring laws are more favorable. LIV Golf has entities that are based in the U.S., England, and the island of Jersey.

Running the league with course locations just in the US would be a good move and reduce their expenses dramatically.

Ending the league would be a good move and reduce their expenses dramatically.

Seems like a US based entity would have been the best model from the start as that’s where the PGA is and if you are going after them and some of their golfers that would have made more sense and could have possibly improved their media and tv contracts.
Who knows, but I don’t see them profitable in two years. Instead of gimmicks like shorts and 54 holes they should have just focused on the PGA weakness in their compensation structure, player participation expectations and scheduling as a means to draw players.

The opportunity was there for an elite tour with limited fields/events and high compensation. They sort of did this, but also made the product incredibly cheap and gimmicky and the fields didn’t satisfy what would feel like an elite tour.
I’d say that ship has sailed with the changes the PGA has made, and there is no way they can attract the capital to try the above again anyway

Just to be clear: I'm indifferent to LIV. It's the WNBA that I'd like to see gone permanently.

not really though, because it took much more europeans and international players than americans. that was the point was europe was their home base.
but yes LIV is a shite product that nobody gives AF about

I like LIV and enjoy the courses around the world. Basing it just in the US would be pointless

Kind of hard to find an audience when your tournaments are on the CW. Reminds me of the early years of the Fox Network.
