Liberty baseball coach will triple check his weekend roster from now on I bet

After the 1st pitch of the bottom of the 1st inning, the Liberty Flames were forced to forfeit the 2nd game of their weekend, CUSA series against Jacksonville State for using a player not on the 27-man roster coaches turn in to the umpires & opposing teams prior to each game/series
The Flames starting pitcher, a regular in the rotation and apparently an All-Conference type pitcher, had been accidentally omitted from the 27-man roster
Can't fault the Jacksonville State coach for pointing out the mistake when he, after the now-ineligible player threw a pitch, did to get his guys a free W in the 1st game of a DH
Since Liberty didn't do a recap of their Saturday DH sweep, here's what Jacksonville State said about it
And here's the link to watch the replay on ESPN+ to see how it all unfolded.
Jacksonville State ended up winning game 2 of the DH as well to win the CUSA series 2-1.

the Gamecocks were rewarded with a win via forfeit in the opening game of the twinbill. For conference weekends in CUSA, each team is to submit a 27-man roster for the entire series. When Jax State came to the plate in the first inning, it was brought to the umpires attention that Liberty's starting pitcher was not on the 27-man roster that was turned in to the three-man crew prior to the start of the series on Friday, deeming the starting pitcher an ineligible player and the game ended in a forfeit in favor of the Gamecocks. Submitting a 27-man roster for conference weekends is standard across NCAA Division I college baseball.

That L is directly on that coach. He'll never make that mistake again, though .

No. What’s Bush League is turning in an official roster and then using a kid in a game who is not on said roster.
Why would Jacksonville State be looked on any negative light due to Liberty’s frick up?
Get a Dub and save arms for the next one.

How so?
It's bush league to make JSU out as the party that did the wrong thing in this scenario.

Because they knew it. They knew, could have just as easily told the coach/umpires prior to the start of the game, and played. Instead they waited for the kid that is clearly on their team to throw a single pitch then protest. It's travel ball BS just like what we saw from Kentucky this weekend. It's a piss poor "Gotcha" culture that we live in today.

"I realized that a guy that they told us that they were going to start was not on the roster. When I saw him out on the mound, I knew that it wasn't O.K. to not be on the roster and walk out and throw a first pitch. I wasn't 100% on the verdict, whether the next pitcher comes in and you keep going or if Conference USA has a rule that it's an automatic forfeit."
This lie from him rubbed me the wrong way too. Just own it. I lost the night before. They messed up. I took advantage and got the win. Don't say this BS aw shucks I had no idea what would happen. It just reeks of used car salesman.
I obviously have zero interest in either team.

Announcer said it happened to him years ago. After that, always had an assistant check it after he did.

I mean... how on Earth does the Liberty coach forget to keep 1 of his top starting pitchers on his active roster?
Also... if you watch the video I linked in the OP... not only did Liberty forget to put the starter on the roster... but then quickly warmed up another pitcher while everything was getting figured out
I didn't check the game 3 box score... but since that pitcher got warmed and then cooled down... did that accidentally cost them another pitcher for the 2nd game of the day's DH?

If your talking little league or Tball yeah… that’s why the coach makes a good living managing things like this.

Oh I fault him for this taking this chickenshit way of winning a game.

I agree with you here. Coach knew the player wasn't on the roster and specifically waited until the 1st pitch was thrown to call attention to it. He followed the rules and did nothing wrong; but don't go out making a BS statement about it. If he thought all they would do is change the pitcher and start over, he would have said something before the 1st pitch.

When a manager turns in the wrong lineup and his team bats out of turn, the opposing manager at every level has pointed that out for decades.
