Does anyone think that letting public schools recruit (like the select schools do) would help solve the divide?

It's been going on for at least 30 years, so I doubt it.

Curtis would never lose. I've watched many River Oaks games against Mississippi MAIS teams

Cedar Creek, St Freds, and OCS would be semifinal locks in every sport in the MAIS. Until they played each other the mercy rule would have to be enforced. When River Oaks was dominant in the early to mid 2000s I don't know that they could have kept it within four touchdowns with any of the 1A playoff teams in the LHSAA.

Maybe we can join MAIS and have an LA division.

It will never happen.

The MAIS will not allow the likes of JC, Evangel, STM, Southern Lab, Rummel, Catholic, BR...even smell membership in their league.

They have their own league for many reasons.
They would not stand a chance against JC, Evangel...it would be a massacre.
The parents, owners, boosters would not allow it.

Both... if private schools are gone the LHSAA has a good reason to go back to four classes

It will get worse

It COULD have been fixed if they had hired someone with ANY leadership skills and wasn't an arrogant, stubborn, a-hole.

In other words, they hired the worst possible person they could have, and it's time to correct that.

Everyone knew before he was hired, that there was a disaster brewing. My guess is that all the really good candidates told them no thanks.

I agree.

But the MHSAA is having a lot of private vs public issues of their own lately. Not a split, but they have taken some actions that have caused some private schools to leave that league and join the MAIS.

I do wonder, if a new league is formed, if perhaps it could attract some of the South Mississippi private schools, like the Catholic schools on the gulf coast.

Yeah, I played at Stanislaus, and we played MHSAA. I'm guessing when you guys say MAIS, it's what used to be MPSA...?(I graduated in 2004) But, the private school association in MS is NOT what it would be in LA. Hell, Stanislaus would be in the middle or bottom half of the Nola Catholic league on a yearly basis...

bottom... not bottom half....

yes I believe the MHSAA privates are not happy with things right now but would not go to MPSA MAIS unless it was real bad

The year they won state, they would've been near the top. That team was loaded with kids that were just straight up athletes. i don't see them going MAIS/MPSA anytime soon, though. I mean, who would even be in their district?? Most of the mid to large enrollment academies are in the northern half of the state...

I know. Last year is not the team I'm talking about, 2009 is. 2009 had a completely different staff, and the defense was legit. Brennan and Rogers will be a year older this year, but the defense is still very weak.

ETA: 4A football isn't the same in MS since they went to 6 classes.
