That's like saying the home plate umpire called the LHSAA to make sure the bat is legal, no way that bat is illegal. LOL

The bat thing is something far more difficult to deal with.

Just know that a neutral party is counting pitches in the press box and telling the ump when the limit is reached for a pitcher in Sulphur.

Of course, the person counting pitches may screw up the count just like an ump can screw up a call.

i prefer the old rule that went by innings... i don't trust such pitch counting, or there to be unbiased people, in a high school environment

If this will be the new standard, pitch count should be added to scoreboards. I understand it can’t happen everywhere, but it should be available at the state tournament.

We're definitely not talking about Jesuit vs Rummel 200 pitch count absurdity here.
we're not, but I bet that happened this season in several places...

They just were in obscure places and not a Jesuit-Rummel showdown so you didn't hear about them

The lhsaa has principals on the executive committee counting pitches during the game
They were in constant communication each inning with ND and STA starting in the 7th inning

Incase anyone ask
Garret Miller threw 130 pitches
When he started his last batter it was pitch 123 not any of the claims being thrown out there.

Yet STA coach was ranting and raving on the sideline trying to get the attention of i guess the STA scorekeeper who came down to where the coaches were standing and im thinking they had the official pitch count wrong because they never went to the umpire and asked the pitch count.

Umpires have 0 to do with pitch count and they have already said they are not the enforcers of the rule.
It’s a really simple process. If the two coaches have a discrepancy about the pitch counts, it goes to third party counter, who was assigned by LHSAA for these games from what I hear. And it goes by whatever count they had. End of story.

If most coaches and pitcher's parents had common sense.... you don't need this rule at any level

I know a lake charles umpire and he said they were assigning local umpires to count pitches in the press box for 50 a game. Supposedly a lot of food up tgere. So some of the big belly umps might have been refilling there plates.

In The Claiborne Christian vs Grace Christian game there was a heated debate over pitch count. Apparently they didn’t count foul balls as pitches.

The Grace coach acted like a little biotch too. There is an official pitch count that is being kept by a Lake Charles official for each game. That's the one that matters. Seems like they are mad that they couldn't hit a kid that was at 100+ pitches, so he wanted to win the State Championship in an already watered down division, by forfeit. Id be embarrassed if I were him or his players. Not to mention that he looks like some little junior high kid with facial hair in his uniform. I know I couldn't take him seriously if I were the other coach.

I agree. I just read the Alexandria Town Talk write up on the incident.

• “I just asked, 'Why did we ask for the pitch count? We haven't checked it all game. Why did they check it? Was that you or the LHSAA?'" Brown said. "And he came unglued with me just asking. I was not hot with him, I was just asking him a simple question and all of a sudden, he calls me an 'idiot.'"

There is nothing wrong about asking for an official pitch count late in the game when a pitcher is getting close to his max number. Nothing wrong with asking. I think you are an idiot too for saying this during an interview for the newspaper.

• “However, all that Brown could think about was the pitch count ruling. He attempted to play the game under protest, but it was quickly dismissed according to Brown.
"I'm a little upset about the situation," Brown said. "The LHSAA failed us.”

He sounds like a bad loser.

• “Our fall has been the seven- and eight-hole guys," Brown said.”

So your throwing the number 7 and 8 batter under the bus in the newspaper?? What a douche move.

From everyone I spoke to that deals with him on a regular basis... He is as douche as douche can be. Nobody likes him and there is a reason that even with his history of winning at Grace, that he is not being asked to take over any of the other programs in that area when a job comes up. He has a stink attached to him.

This. I've seen plenty of HS baseball and its hard for me to pay attention to EVERY pitch, even when I have a rooting interest. If I don't, especially in the early innings with no runners on scoring position, its easy to look up something in the age of smartphones, particularly if you're in the press box, and miss a pitch or two, especially routine foul balls with 2 strikes.

I’m surprised that he’s still coaching honestly. He was their coach when I was in high school 11 years ago and he was a huge douche back then. I don’t know how his players feel about him, but there wasn’t a single coach or umpire that liked him.

I talked to three people: another coach at a local school, the dad of a former player (a 4 year starter) and a buddy who umps up there... they all pretty much still feel the same. The ump told me that after Grace beat Barbe a few years ago, that Brown had a sign made that hangs on the outfield wall that says something to the effect of "Beat Barbe on such and such date. Biggest win in school history." IF that is true, then that is the douchiest thing I've ever heard.

if I was a nobody class B school and beat Barbe, I'd do that too... Bigger than any championship they'll win

BREAKING : The @LHSAA has responded to STA’s request to review the pitch count violation by Notre Dame. In summary, their response was that Notre Dame did in fact violate the Pitch Count rule but they believe because it was “Human Error” they will let the game stand.

From what I've heard, the official score keeper may have screwed up the count.
