Fun fact- Chalmette has grown for the NINTH reclassification in a row...

In Jefferson they've added first Helen Cox, then Haynes and Thomas Jefferson, then Patrick Taylor, and now they've recently added Jefferson RISE and Kenner Discovery.

Hence Rummel's drop from their heyday, and Riverdale and Higgins dropping to 4A this time around

Assuming Higgins and Riverdale don't play up... do you think they keep a 6 team district with Chalmette and the other 5 JP 5A schools?

Seems to me that Karr is likely ticketed for the Catholic League to take Shaw's spot.

Danger territory?
Yeh, danger territory of shutting down or at least having to combine with Chapelle. Affording a campus built for 1500 with only 500 students ain’t good

Is Karr a charter school?

Why or how would they play in a D1 district?

Katrina definitely took a toll on all Catholic League school enrollments, but Rummel will be fine.

Including their 8th grade numbers they have around 650 students which is where they have been hovering for the past 7 years which is a healthy number in my opinion.

They may have the space for 1500, but half of that land is used for athletic facilities.

They did install that brand new $300k turf field which is very nice if you haven't seen it. They also turned the old 8th grade building into a baseball/soccer locker room with a robotics lab + indoor batting cages.

Holy Cross has less than both, are they in the “danger zone”?

In district play, not playoffs.

I can't speak for Mr. Carmel, but I'm fairly certain Jesuit and BM were never even close to 1,800 (especially excluding 8th grade). Perhaps 1,500 including 8th, but nowhere close to 1,800 for 9-12 only...

Fact..

Actually, Rummel has been turning students away the last few years. They want to keep their #’s at that level…

They are one of the oldest schools in the city with what I perceive as old money. They also hovered around the same high school enrollment even pre Katrina correct?

When I graduated high school the Rummel class had 400. Now the entire high school is around that number. That seems like that would put the school in danger as an outsider. But if they are cash happy then I guess not

Correct…

Rummel is finally old enough to have a well established alumni group with expendable money..

There are some big time donors to the school now..

Coupled with a 25 year decline in parochial school enrollment nationwide.

Case in point Jesuit reject list used to be 3-4 times more than what it is now.

Shrinking demographic exacerbated by katrina

Better public magnet school options, primarily in Jefferson Parish, also hurts Catholic school enrollment.

This. Haynes has emerged as a very strong school. Their National Merit Scholars list is pretty impressive.

De La Salle is considering playing up... likely to 4A

LINK

Their 3A district has been garbage the last few years and is very small, leading to scheduling issues. They have to play in the DII playoffs for select football no matter if they are in 3A or 4A. Maybe try to get into a better district?

What about a district of De La Salle, Shaw, Holy Cross, Belle Chasse, Cox, and Landry-Walker?
