Like Josh McDaniels getting several NFL Head Coaching opportunities for " coaching" Brady?

He’s been the head coach of exactly ONE NFL team. He wasn’t great, but he did make the playoffs and actually won a game with Tim Tebow as his QB. But his “coaching”—I don’t know why y’all think Brady just walked right into the league as a 6th round draft pick and just took over and started teaching his coaches at 22-years-old, but whatever—Brady (in the way you imply it) is maybe 1% of why he got that opportunity. The rest was because he had offensive success, but most importantly, because he coached under and learned from Billy B. You know who else got a head coaching job because he was a coordinator under Bill? African American Romeo Crennel. Who, in 5 seasons as a HC never made the playoffs and only had 1 winning season. He didn’t fired because he was black, he got fired because he’s sucked as an NFL HC.

Many of us understand that Southerners do not think Blacks deserve these jobs.

Jesus Christ you and your ilk. And you could just as likely to be white as black as far as I know because plenty of white people think like you. So when I say “your ilk,” it doesn’t mean black. But you honestly believe, 2022, that “Southerners” as a whole, do not think blacks deserve NFL HC jobs? I’m relatively liberal for this website when it comes to race, but fans—fanatics—of NFL teams could not give less of a shite about the color of their favorite team’s head coach. As long as he wins, he could be goddamn green.

quote:

unfortunately we cannot express to young recruits how the SEC fanbase really feel about them.

I mean, are you fricking serious? You simply cannot be this stupid. Because college players aren’t there for very long, of course fans are gonna see them more as labor or commodities. But that has absolutely zero to do with race. There are exceptions, but most are black players. I’m an LSU fan. Joe Burrow has transcended LSU fandom into the NFL like we’ve never seen. Because he’s Big Dick Joe Burrow. But LSU fans absolutely still love Jamar Chase, Justin Jefferson, Jarvis Landry, Clyde, Devin White, Trey White, the list goes on and on. And almost all of them are black.

But even if you could make a rational argument that it’s SEC fans who look down on the black players of their schools—and you can’t—if you think the Southeastern United States has some sort of monopoly on racism, then I can only assume you’ve either never been there or never left there. If there is legitimate racism remaining—and there’s a lot less than the media would have you believe—then it’s pretty evenly spread out. Probably more insulting in the “progressive” northern cities or states as it’s more subverted in the soft bigotry of lower expectations. Or the old hypocritical standby of “Yes, I’m all for that progressive policy that will help blacks, just not in my subdivision, not at my kids’ schools.”

Motherfrick, I love Byron Leftwich. Have loved him since he played in college with a fricking broken leg. He couldn’t walk and had to be carried down the field by a couple of his OL between plays, but stayed in there. It was amazing, and I’ve had a tremendous amount of respect for him ever since. As a Saints fan, he was one of top 2 or 3 guys I was initially thinking might make the best candidates (the other was Flores. And I’m even intrigued by Eric Beinemy. Both black men). And he gets a great opportunity today to become the young HC of the team that drafted him like 7th overall, has a young roster with a very talented young QB he can develop and help grow, and that has a good bit of draft capital. But instead of reading this thread and being happy for him and excited to see what he can do, I’ve got to come in here and pull your fricking pants down and spank your hiney because you can’t beyond the inteligencia of child? Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck you.

Your opinion of McDaniels is irrelevant he still got a HC job and is often linked with others. It’s not racist in the sense that someone consciously says we’re want Josh because he’s white or we don’t want Byron because he’s black but the end result is the same if you say Leftwich isn’t a good candidate because he was the OC for Brady. And saying McDaniels is getting other chances because the NFL likes retreads is exactly their point. How can more black coaches get chances that way?

You’re better than this. I absolutely concede that white coaches get more opportunities than black ones. Part of the reason is that there are less black coaches to choose from, so just by a numbers sense, more white coaches will become HCs. But that’s got to be addressed at lower levels, encouraging more black coaches to enter the profession, making sure they get the same opportunities at the lower levels to prove themselves. It is systemic, but it’s not nefarious. No owner or Head Coach is hiring less qualified white guys over more qualified black guys because “frick black guys, they’re not as smart.” Whatever the bias may be, it’s subconscious.

But I can’t believe you are making this McDaniels argument. He’s not getting all this interest because he was Tom Brady’s OC, he’s getting it because he was Bill Belicheck’s OC. For like 20 years. And has been very successful, including a year of 11-5 with Brady’s backup, Matt Cassell and had an impressive year with rookie Mac Jones this year. Comparing him and his interest to Leftwich’s based on race is just so fricking lazy. McDaniels has been a successful OC for 6 or 7 times the years than Leftwich had. And he hitched his wagon and was mentored for 2 decades by the greatest coach in NFL history as opposed to Leftwich being with Arians for about half a decade. You’re better than this weak arse, lazy, bull shite argument. Come the frick on.

quote:

hopefully Bieniemy gets one as well not because he’s black but because he’s been a very successful coordinator that wants to be a HC and deserves an opportunity.

Does he deserve an opportunity, though? How much of it is his or Andy Reid’s offense? I don’t know. Could be all his. But he’s got some off the field issues that are bad looks, and one most owners would prefer to not have to deal with unless he just kills the interview and they have no choice but to hire him he’s such the obvious choice. But apparently he’s not the greatest interview, because he’s had a ton, yet still no HC gig.

Jesus. Leftwich entered the league three years after Brady and he's been retired for 10 years.

Several? He got one HC job.

And his lack of success is the whole point for the skeptics - Brady's offensive coordinators don't have much of a track record as head coach.

Who said anything like that in this thread? The skeptics are pointing to white guys as evidence.

I hope he does well and was actually hoping he wouldn't go to the Jags because it's a bad franchise.

Leftwich has always been associated with one word: "respect"

You don't get that by riding others' coat tails. I think he'll do fine, but will be limited because, you know, it's Jacksonville.

Especially since the idea of hiring Tomlin had a great deal of support on this site.

When the Jaguars private plane was in Denver on Monday, it wasn't there to take Nathaniel Hackett to Jacksonville for an interview; it was there to pick up former Broncos HC Vic Fangio, who has interviewed for Jaguars' HC job, per league sources. Fangio is a candidate for Jaguars

Leftwich was QB coach and OC for Arians in Arizona for a couple of years.

Source tells me that Byron Leftwich is the #jaguars pick but the hold up is over who will have control of the roster. Leftwich wants Trent Baalke out and the #Jaguars to hire Adrian Wilson who is the Vice President of pro scouting with Cardinals

Give the man what he wants. Hell, fire him regardless of who the next coach is.

Good. Nobody wants Baalke there. Some Coaches wouldn’t even consider the Jacksonville HC job strictly because of him. The fan base hates him. Just get rid of him.

A revolting fan base would match up with a revolting ownership and front office.

If they lose Leftwich over baalke those fans are going to riot. Leftwich makes complete sense there. Players love him and I assume the fan base loves him from his time there.

Did I see correctly that the Bucs get TWO 3rd round picks if Leftwich gets hired because he’s black?

Wait why would the Bucs get that? Wouldn’t the Jags get that if they’re the hiring team?
