The difference is LeBron feels the need to have a SportsCenter special to show the world what a great person he is. That's why people don't like him.

Jalen Rose started a charter school in Detroit, but he isn't taking credit for footing the bill. Nor did he do anything on ESPN to make himself look good.
Maybe if LeBron showed a little humility he wouldn't be such a lightning rod.

He didn't foot the bill. Read the History tab for funding:

Also, his Bio on ESPN mentions the school in a standalone paragraph and he and Jacoby did a video interview about it available on ESPN.
"In 2011, he established the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy (JRLA). The open enrollment public charter high school in Detroit gives students a leadership-focused education based upon real-world, project-based experiences within the career context of sports and entertainment. Rose also serves as the President of the Board of Directors."

Jalen Rose is also not LeBron James, arguably the most well known athlete on the planet. Bringing awareness to what he’s doing is not a bad thing. Maybe it’ll motivate others to do things like he and Jalen Rose have done. Or in whatever way they choose to be charitable

How? The cost of remedial education is static. Akron taxpayers are paying for the educational cost regardless.
All LeBron did is offset some of the cost. If he doesn't assist the school, the students are still in the Akron public system and the same amount of money is flowing from taxpayers.
The stats above show the new school isn't increasing per student expenditure. That's what matters in this context.

Dude a lot if Trump people think black people can't possibly be smart or do something great for the community. Hatred for a person that has more melanin in ones skin fuels these ignorant @ss comments. Once you understand this than it all makes sense. JJ Watt after the disaster in Houston is a perfect example. He put up a significant amount of his own money then challenged others to do the same. No one on this board would have dared to make these same uneducated remarks

because Lebron didn't tell everyone the PUBLIC school would have portions of it paid for by the PUBLIC!!!!
Not a fricking portion retard 80 percent of it. TAKEN FROM OTHER SCHOOLS. See i can type in caps just like you retard.

It was EXACTLY the story everyone read, just without numbers. People will stretch any story to make Lebron, an objectively good person, look bad. It’s sad.

So this is a bad thing? I'm confused by all of the criticism. Are people upset he did this?

No. Lol. What? Lol this a real post? If anything they adding more of a burden. You are adding another school to an already over burdened district. How are yall missing this main fricking point?

, you think someone with LeBron's popularity only gets a special because he's looking to pat himself on the back?

Give me 1 good reason why this money being taken from other schools is a bad thing? And when you answer, let's consider all of the other things this school is doing for these kids that the other schools aren't.
Can't wait to hear this rationalization of an answer.
Posted on 8/7/18 at 12:20 pm to vodkacop
quote:Well it’s an existing school in the district that was used on a temporary basis.
You are adding another school to an already over burdened district.
quote:So this isn’t a new facility; the students aren’t new students either. And with 960 students once running at full capacity, at over $10,000 spent per pupil, they would already be spending almost $10 million on those students anyways.
The foundation says it has spent about $2 million this year, largely to redesign and refurnish the building at 400 West Market St., a district building which has been used for several schools over the years. Most times, it was a temporary home for students while their main school was being demolished and rebuilt.
Instead they now have a facility that no longer sits vacant when not in temporary use; they have an updated facility; they’ll have almost $2 million more to spend on the other 20,000 students; AND they’ll have 960 fewer at risk students in their classrooms across the district.
Posted on 8/7/18 at 12:21 pm to vodkacop
quote:So Lebron should not be donating money to build a school that goes out of its way more than any other school to help these at risk children.
No. Lol. What? Lol this a real post? If anything they adding more of a burden. You are adding another school to an already over burdened district. How are yall missing this main fricking point?
That's the main fricking point?
This guy is quite literally arguing to NOT help these kids who need help the most.

Are you arguing they'd be better off without the LeBron James Family Foundation?
Posted on 8/7/18 at 12:26 pm to vodkacop
quote:They’ll also be taking 4.6% of the students from those schools, and at-risk students at that while only taking 3.8% of their pupil expenditures allocation, giving them 3.8% more to spend for everyone of the remaining 20,000 students.
Not a fricking portion retard 80 percent of it. TAKEN FROM OTHER SCHOOLS.
What if Akron schools just used the facility as a new school to lower the class sizes, but without $2 million plus the University of Akron partnership?

At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

They’ll also be taking 4.6% of the students from those schools
