I then showed him that the leader in PER hasn't won anything of significance in the last 10 years

1 player out of 12, for the 2nd time.

This isn't 1 on 1.

What if the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th best players had a higher PER for Team B? That's why your using ONE player deal makes zero sense.

No, I took predictive to assume at LEAST greater than 10% accuracy.

WHAT?

Again, Kobe led the league in usage rate and shot attempts this season correct?

Why didn't Kobe lead in PER?

I don't CARE who leads in PER because at the end of the day it has been totally inaccurate in predicting winners. The same goes for Hollinger's team efficiency ratings. Useless in real predictability since the day it was developed.

Offensive efficiency is something completely different than PER.

He just doesn't answer, then he posts a link to the Offensive efficiency ratings to prove a point about PER.

Good times.

It's really not. They're stats guys going back and forth and you're just interjecting every few posts w/ a, "OMG YOU'RE SOOOOO STOOPID"

It really is.

He's pounding his fists saying PER is slanted towards guys with higher Usage Rates.

Then when I tell him Kobe has led the league in usage rates the last 2 seasons but isn't near the top in PER and ask him for his thoughts TWICE, he doesn't respond.

He instead responds with a link to team rankings for offensive efficiency.

Because he has to play defense against people bigger than him all game every game without bitching. oh wait...

That would be fine if knight would actually post something of substance. He keeps repeating over and over again that PER is flawed. NO frickING shite

All the while refusing to address why Kobe's shooting rates (which he just said is a large factor in PER) aren't indicative of his PER

Also funny coming from the guy who just interjects with "bandwagon" over and over again.

The offensive and defensive team rankings aren't supposed to be predictive in regards to winning. They're just metrics to judge which teams have the most efficient offenses/defenses. Looking at how his top ranked teams performed offensively or defensively in the playoffs would be more accurate than judging it based on whether they win championships.

eta: The Dantoni/Nash Suns would have to be at or near the top of the offensive rankings, yet they didn't win a title. Would you actually argue that they weren't one of the most efficient offenses in the NBA due to the lack of a championship?

Yes, Off Efficiency encompasses scoring ONLY.

PER is a range of things.

No, I'm gonna guess that they're actually correct unless you ran the numbers.

It's points per 100 possessions, those are facts. I'm guessing you didn't know what those ratings even were?

He's linking them to prove PER is flawed.

It makes no sense, whatsoever.
