Realized this weekend while talking to a mid-40’s LeBron fanatic that there is nothing LeBron can do as a player that will make me like him more or view him in a better light than I do Michael Jordan.

Nothing.

Not even if he somehow scrounges up 3-4 more rings.

While somewhat irrational, my mind is set on this and I’m not budging.

How many other Jordan worshippers will admit to this?

I think the fact that every poster and their mother has to make a thread about LeBron vs MJ proves the comparison is a lot closer than they'd like to admit.

Different eras. Different players. Different teams. Who gives a shite at this point. Just enjoy watching it while it lasts.

For over a decade or so the experts have been saying the NBA is greatly diluted, level of play is down, and that it's not the league it used to be. Despite that, Lebron can only muster two rings.

He's not the greatest. Frankly, he doesn't even belong in the conversation. In the weakest era of NBA basketball, ever in the history of the game, he can't even dominate the game.

It's sad how the Lebron groupies can't see this.

He won 3, and experts don't say that. The Warriors might be the best team in NBA history.

I think when LeBron retires people will appreciate his legacy more. Yes he is a bitch and kind of egotistical and controlling, but he’s the most versatile player I’ve seen in my lifetime and one of the greatest passers in history.

That has been the problem with an element of the MJ crowd. With LeBron being in the discussion with MJ as the GOAT, this particular part of the MJ crowd is triggered at that thought and creates any and every attempt to disparage his accomplishments.

Three rings.

For a player that is, likely, to go down as the second best player of all-time, his name will, inevitably, be in the conversation.

The sad part is what I read in the OP. Michael Jordan fans have embedded in their minds that they won't be budged. No player will ever eclipse Jordan because of sheer narrow-mindedness.

Literally the opposite of all this is true.

Pretty soon, the ring argument will be all you guys have. And this is coming from someone that used to revere MJ.

I didn't think Lebron could catch MJ statistically but he is doing just that. He's playing at an appreciably higher level than MJ was at the same point in their careers, without taking 1 1/2 years off to recharge his batteries.

when Lebron leaves to go play baseball for a year and a half, and comes back to 3 peat, I'll think about it.

MJ couldn't do it without the greatest coach ever. We can play these hypothetical games all day.

i love me some mj, and i love me some bron. Grew up in the mj golden days. Obviously MJ was special, but i also believe if mj played today... he wouldnt be so loved. I think he would have as many haters, or more than bron does. If mj had played in the social media and internet/tmz days things would look alot different for mj. He came at a time when basketball was evolving and getting big. There will be no other player to be able to draw that kind of admiration of that many fans as a whole because of the time that mj came in the game. With that said, lebron and mj are two totally different types of players, and played the game the game in different eras. Cant really compare the two. Bron will never be appreciated like he should, until he is gone. I dont care how you rank them, that is all opinion... but they will either be 1a or 1b, and that says enough about both of them as players

Props for being open to your own biases. It's a natural bias in a discussion like this to get locked into your position and want to stick to it.

When "camps" develop, people just want to stick to their camp. Having seen both LeBron and Jordan in their prime, I'm glad my opinion doesn't actually matter. They are both incredible players with legit GOAT arguments. Jordan has been the GOAT for a while, but the argument for LeBron isn't crazy talk.

All evidence suggests that MJ was the one to play in the diluted era.

Oh man, yeah I remember when he made a shot over Craig Ehlo, when he pushed off Byron Russell. They sure don't make them like those guys anymore.

Scottie Pippen was a top 10 player in the league when the Bulls won their titles

Number of Championships Jordan has without Pippen - 0
