The film, titled "STUDENT ATHLETE," will debut Oct. 2 at 10 p.m. ET on HBO, according to a press release. James is listed as an executive producer for the film in association with SpringHill Entertainment, the production company that he founded with longtime friend and business manager Maverick Carter.
"This is an incredibly important story about the institutional denial of basic human rights for these student athletes," Carter, the CEO of the production company, said in a statement. "When (producer) Steve Stoute brought us this idea, it was a perfect fit for the kind of stories we want to tell at SpringHill."
The documentary will feature four current and former college athletes, including Kentucky basketball player Nick Richards, according to the release.
James, whose Cavaliers were swept in the NBA Finals last week, did not play college basketball, opting instead to enter the NBA straight out of high school in 2003. Earlier this year, in the wake of an ongoing investigation by the FBI into recruiting practices, he criticized the NCAA as "corrupt."
"The NCAA is corrupt, we know that," James told reporters in February. "Sorry, it's going to make headlines. But it's corrupt."

Nice try Bron, but Kobe is the GOAT Athlete Producer.

I agree that the NCAA is corrupt, but it's hard for me to support anything James does.
So I'll skip this.
So I'll skip this.

Wait, student athletes don't have basic human rights? They get everything they want and shite for free.... Especially CBB and CFB players.

And this is why LBJ will never be considered the GOAT. "Institutional denial of basic human rights."

Curious what they don't get? The ones I was friends with at LSU
- didn't have to work to pay for books
- didn't have to work to pay for an apartment
- had a food voucer to be used anywhere on campus
- had free clothing (of course all LSU gear)
- had access to free tutoring/help
- received free books
- could walk into Chimes/TJ Ribs and eat for free (technically I know this isn't a school issue but they got it)
- got into and drank in most of the Tigerland clubs for free
Yes they had film session, practice, classes to attend (some didn't go and had someone hand them notes) and yes they made the university plenty of money.
But exactly where is the "basic human rights" they were denied?

I'd really love for Carter to actually explain what human rights these student-athletes are being denied considering they live in America and they voluntarily agreed to those rules and regulations, plus I've heard being a scholarship student-athlete's pretty fun especially today with all the money boosters apply to facilities and food and all that good stuff what a fricking JOKE

I wish he’d shut up and dribble.

They get a stipend and scooters too. Our football players get helmet-themed scooter helmets.

I wasn't sure what to expect from LeBron's production company, but I actually liked 89 Blocks a lot.
