That's a very fair question. I wouldn't question anyone that puts KAJ above Lebron. For me, it's just that LeBron can play 4 positions. He could lead the league in scoring if he wanted to. Same with assists, and be a top rebounder. He's a walking triple double.

Look, I can’t stand LeBron. Can’t stand his whining and flopping around like a child on the court. But it’s hard to ignore his accomplishments. He’s definitely Top 5. I’ll give him that. But Duncan THAT far above LeBron in this overall list?

Crazy.

5 rings though

And Fundamental was always the perfect teammate, never whined, never threw coaches and teammates under the bus, never manufactured drama, he just played basketball at a consistently high level for a very long time and it translated to titles, the guiding light of those Spurs teams who, outside of the Ray Allen shot in 2013, never appeared to get rattled, Duncan's definitely above LeBron at least at this point in time

no Kobe? Smith must have taken shaq's forearm to the side of head on a studio break causing irreparable brain trauma

Outlandish

Not outlandish on the surface. Exactly how far outside the top 10 would matter obviously.

But having Kobe in the 12-15 range isn't remotely a horrible take. Having him 8-10 is a bit high IMO, but likewise not a bad take at all. Having Kobe in the top 5, that's bad...real bad.

Lebron can be no lower than 3, there's really no argument otherwise that makes sense IMO.

A guy with only 3 titles in 16 seasons top 3 all-time? That’s insane!! You could make an argument for 5-6, top 3 at this point in time nonsensical

NBA analyst Kenny Smith has uttered yet another controversial statement that will definitely raise the eyebrows of die-hard basketball fans. Smith placed Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James in the 10th spot on his All-Time Top 10 while the late Kobe Bryant is not even in it.
And the reason of course is essentially "everything was tougher when I played" which isn't surprising.

Kenny, in the video, said if he were playing today he's average 26-27 a game because it's so easy to score nowadays. Nevermind the 90s illegal defense rules that made it wayyyyy easier to score out of an iso than in today's game.

Magic was an average defender, but he was the best passer and facilitator ever, plus he was an excellent scorer and rebounder for a pg.

I'll put it this way, if I had to pick a single guy to work with an unknown system or supporting cast, it would be Magic. As great as MJ and LeBron were/are, Magic is the ultimate guy for fitting with others.

He ran a fastbreak oriented team. Then, the Lakers slowed down and he led them to the 91 Finals as a half court team. He functioned in a Kareem centric offense as a great distributor. When Kareem got old and retired, he took the lead as the centerpiece scorer amd distributor and still excelled.

MJ and LeBron are the only players I can't legit make a case for Magic being better than. LeBron is close to Magic in distribution and IQ, and MJ is no slouch there. Both MJ and LeBron crush Magic in other areas. Magic is my favorite player ever, but overall I'd have him in the 3-6 range.

Just dropping in to remind everyone that Timberlake hit the J over Kenny and them stared him down in the Celeb All Star Game.

Magic is way too high on all lists that have him higher than 10.

Why didn’t he last year when he was the only player worth a shite on the Lakers?

Magic thrived in the late 80's - his early 80's career albeit his rookie year playing center in Game 7 to win the title where he had a triple double - Magic wasn't nearly as great a player as Bird was.

Bird got something like 60 1st place votes for Rookie of the Year, Magic got 3.

Magic really became a top 5 player in the late 80's when he surpassed Bird and owned the league like Jordan would own the early 90's.

I meant as an all-around two-way player, the Lakers diminished as an all-around team by the late 80s when people like Sleepy Floyd and Hakeem ate both their backcourt and frontline defenses alive (hence the Mychal Thompson trade) and their team defense became average statistically, Magic obviously took his offensive game up a level from a scoring perspective but defense-wise was average to world-class liability, the Showtime Lakers just settled for out scoring teams a ton

You act like scoring 27 points a game with 8 assists is something that isn't impressive.

If someone doesn't have LeBron at least in their top 5, I automatically know not to take anything else they say seriously regarding basketball.

It's standard with LeBron here.

PTE claims LeBron quit on his team all the time vs the Celtics in 2010, when LeBron averaged 27, 10 and 7 for the series and went for 27, 19 and 10 in the decisive game.

It's why I feel like I'm team LeBron here, despite not being there in real life. I find things like dropping a 27 point, near 20 rebound triple double in an elimination game impressive.

Any list with Lebron James outside the top 2 should automatically be heavily scrutinized.

Any list with Lebron James outside the top 3 should be disregarded completely
