No kidding.

Somehow people view these athletes as being oppressed even though they are paid millions to play a sport.

Poor millionaires are being oppressed by the evil billionaires.

I have zero pity for them.

LeBron said it was slavery mentality

Which is right

A lot of work we do today is considered "modern day slavery".

People are just throwing temper tantrums because LeBron said it

It’s in no way slavery if you get paid.

Lebron is an idiot for comparing an employer employee relationship to slavery.

That's why the term wageslave exists

Slavery is used interchangeably with -"exploitation" today

Because that's exactly how the NFL works? A bunch of rich arse good old boys that want taxpayers to fund their stadiums and then want to fill then full of private boxes which aren't subject to revenue sharing. He couldn't be more correct.

Who knew the civil war began over revenue sharing and publicly funded stadiums

I'm not sure what context he was going for

But many people use the word "slavery" in the context of work.

That doesn’t make it a valid comparison.

If that is what you believe, how do you differentiate between jobs that don’t have a slave mentality and those that do?

Does a physician fall under that if he works for a hospital that could fire him/her? What about an engineer who works for someone else?

Where do you draw the line with that mentality?

Hell, I work for someone else and make SIGNIFICANTLY less than these athletes.

Do I live in “modern day slavery”?

I mean. A lot of people want to get pissed off at the semantics of it all

Have you ever heard the phrase, "they are working me like a slave"

I mean, it’s not slavery mentality. It could be a lot of other things, but it’s not that.

It’s about as ignorant as blankety calling people racist, which is pretty close to what James did too.

NFL owners take advantage of lots of people. I don’t think the athletes are among those people. That’s why it isn’t a slave mentality.

The only reason you're defending it is because LeBron said it. This is fact.

Only by idiots.

LeBron, you, me, everyone who has a paid job is free to bust out of the “plantation” any time we feel like it. By definition, that’s not slavery.

You ever heard the phrase, ‘I’m so hungry I could eat a horse.’?

You're getting mad at the literal word of slavery. It's pretty comical actually

He clearly shouldn't have used it, but he simply meant that he believes NFL players are exploited for thier labor.

Feel free to disagree with that, sure whatever. But getting mad at him using the slavery mentality line is pretty stupid

And he is wrong on that as well.

They are paid millions for their labor.

How are they exploited?

They aren’t paid enough?

I think the common arguments are that that most players are easily replaceable. Short term careers. Ageism.

Pointing out stupidity isn’t the same thing as getting mad.

Any professional athlete making any parallels to their lot in life and slavery is what’s stupid. It’s really that simple. Nothing about Lebron’s life is remotely similar to slavery. He’s not being exploited. He’s being paid more than 99.999999% of people to play a game. It’s beyond absurd that you think he has some point here.

There are parts of the world where human trafficking and slavery still occurs. Maybe LeBron can go talk to them about how bad things are for him.
