I'm not. I'm not a fan of either player. I just evaluate basketball.

Jordan was FMVP in all of his appearances.

If Lebron wins tomorrow he will have beaten two 50 win teams and a 48 win team this run. Just because they lack all-star power doesn’t mean those teams weren’t good. Before the playoffs started many people wrote the Cavs off in the playoffs, he’ll they even had 76ers taking the Cavs out. And it isn’t like the Cavs are oozing with star power.

This is a star-driven league; I predicted the Cavs to come out of the East for that reason alone. Lowry and DeRozen are not super stars, but are merely very good players. Harden is an all-star, but is not a superstar. Lebron statistically is playing the best ball he has ever played, but he also focuses much more of his energy towards offense. I would allow Lebron to have his on offense, because the other players will stand around and watch. Meanwhile, the Cavs, including Lebron are less than stellar on defense (Lebron can be good on defense, but that would take away from his offense).

Dude there was Incessant tanking this year. More than ever. 48 wins this year is not your typical 48 win team. More like 44-45. There were more teams over .500 this year than ever. Due to so many teams not even trying to win. If you were not tanking you were over .500 by default.

The only way you can argue for Jordan over LBJ is either blind nostalgia or simple ignorance of the game of basketball.

Agreed

I have another theory though

Personal politics?

That's definitely a factor

I think a lot of it is the nostalgia that people are talking about and that's very real.

I think another part of it is aesthetics. Some players are just more aesthetically pleasing to watch. I'd argue in that department MJ is better than LeBron. Now if we're talking about who is a better basketball player, that's easy. It's LeBron. It really isn't even that much of a debate at this point. He is more efficient and more of a value to his teams than MJ was.

If you need any evidence of the aesthetic argument note that the team MJ people will occasionally throw in the year that he won the dunk contest which is of course trivial and nothing but aesthetic in nature. Aesthetics matter to people for whatever reason. It's why many will say Barry Sanders is the GOAT RB. There were probably a couple of better overall backs but who was more fun to watch than him?

There are many reasons.

He was abusing some poor soul on offense because of illegal defense rules.

Then on the other side he was the superior athlete and smarter when guarding his guy. So his defense against that guy looked amazing.

Like some coaches used to preach in football, just beat the guy in front of you.

Well frick, MJ was going to do that every single night. Especially those guys couldn't shoot.

What guy was MJ guarding who was gonna get the ball behind the 3 point line and hit him with some athletic jab steps and dare MJ to give half a frick about them because he could rise up at ANY moment and bang a 3?

Now add in the multiple layers and styles of defense that guys have to go against now.

MJ was OF COURSE going to look better.

Could you imagine John Stockton trying to guard James with the defensive rules back then?

Put James in place of Jordan in those Utah Jazz games and both finals series are sweeps with probably no game getting within 6 points.

Some guys are better when they are clearly “the guy.” Lebron wouldn’t necessarily look as good on that Bulls team.

You must have missed the part where LeBron lead in just about every imaginable statistic for the entire series for both teams

He'd find a way to fit in and he'd be an upgrade over MJ IMO

Lebron would be even more of a monster in that era with those defensive rules

Lebron is the greatest and final firm of Pippen.

He's also max Magic Johnson.

Besides some freak center like Shaq or Wilt, Lebron could be the best at being any other player.

And Steph, Lebron couldn't do Steph.
