So you had a pinpoint understanding and memory of Jordan in his prime when you were 5 and 6 years old?

would honestly love to see Lebron (or D-Wade for that matter) drive into the lane and try to finish against the Bad Boy Pistons (Laimbeer, Mahorn, etc) or even the Knicks (Ewing, Mason, Oakley) for that matter. I honestly think they would cry on the court. I genuinely believe that

There you go, discredit people due to age that that has some bearing on who's better. I'm going to stop listening to anything anyone 30+ has to say in regards to pro sports because you're all biased as shite

That's really not it at all. The GOATs are the GOATs because they are that rare intersection of talent and drive. I think LeBron has the potential to be better than Jordan but he has to become as driven as Jordan was to get there. He's on the path, but being on the path and reaching the destination are 2 different things.

Lebron will eventually put up more numbers than Mike due to number of years in the league. MJ played for 15 and retired @ 40. Lebron is already at 9 and is only 28yrs old. In 6 years Lebron will only be 34. He'll likely be in the leage for 4-5 more years than MJ unless he sustains a major injury. He'll likely retire with the best numbers in league history by default.

Did he not? I am not bashing him...but didn't Delonte West throw him off his game by banging his mom?

not really. Just a few short years ago, there was really no argument that the top 3 were Jordan, Bird, and Johnson.

I'm pretty sure that alot of us "old" guys will say LeBron belongs up there with Johnson and Bird. Those 3 were quite solid with our generation. If LeBron was actually better than Jordan, then I don't think any of us would have a problem with saying it.

Jordan and LeBron are playing in two completely different leagues. I would KILL to know what type of numbers Jordan would put up in today's finesse game.

We're biased, but you've watched Jordan in his prime when you were 5?

....and WE should be discredited? How many full games do you remember watching Jordan in? When you were 5.....

You really think Lebron would do worse if he was allowed to be MORE physical?

Of course it's not impossible. And if it does happen, it doesn't mean everyone else was behind, it just means that we let his career run its course.

LeBron is playing better right now than Michael Jordan ever did. This two-month stretch has been the greatest in basketball history. However, Jordan had a 5-year stretch of insanity. Obviously, not the same numbers LeBron is putting up over the last month, but the sample size for Jordan was way longer. People don't realize that Jordan had probably entered his prime even before he was winning championships.

In 2010, when LeBron won his second MVP, I said he was the 2nd best basketball player ever. I had him right there with Magic. Now, was that premature, considering I hadn't let him play a few more years? Also maybe a bit hypocritical considering now I'm arguing you have to let him play a few more years for him to pass Jordan? You could argue that. But the reason I think you have to wait is because Jordan, to me, is way better than any other player in NBA history, before LeBron came along. It wasn't close, in my opinion. For someone to pass him, it's going to have to take time, because part of Jordan's greatness was his remarkable consistency.

LeBron has an amazing combination of skill, power, and determination. He's physically empowering. He could certainly end up being the greatest player of all-time.

However, Jordan was just as much of a pure athlete. He just wasn't as big. But he makes up for that in other areas. His ability to shoot as high a percentage as he did from the field from the guard position was ridiculous.

It all comes down to how you want to measure players. If you're more into overall careers and achievements, then you might deduct LeBron for his Finals losses, his ending in Cleveland, his mythical lack of "killer instinct" before Miami, etc. If you're judging just their primes, that might be where LeBron stacks up better. But we won't know until LeBron's prime is over. Like you said, he's probably just coming into it. However, he could be right in the middle of it and we don't know.

But still, as of now, I'd still call Michael Jordan the greatest player of all-time. I don't think that makes me behind. I understand just how great LeBron James is.

This. Just look at the rule changes since 2000. That late 80s & 90s NBA was a tough arse league. I don't think people understand that. There were no hand check fouls or fouls for putting elbow/forearms into to spines and kidneys. I'd love to see each guy switch eras.

Just imagine for one second....where defense is barely allowed......what Jordan would do to this ticky tacky league in his prime.

All you old guys act like its the young guys who don't understand, it's the other way around. You old guys will never let go of MJ no matter what, we are lucky enough to have gotten to see MJ, hear about MJ, look back at how amazing he was. But we're not locked into the thought that nobody could ever be as good, it's y'all that don't understand. Move on guys, it happens in every sport, MJ paved the way for a guy like Lebron. You can sit back and act like everything was better in the '90s but you're just wrong. You can try and discredit me bc I'm young but it doesn't matter my age, I've seen them both play in their prime, I know all about MJ's career. Age doesn't mean shite, you old guys need to catch up to the rest of the world and realize things can get better, people can be better than the things you remember. It's ok, step into the light

I see your point. Every AREA is better nowadays than it was back then. Technology, reason, athleticism, research, etc.

I'm the biggest supporter of this.

However, that doesn't mean every individual is better. Jordan was incredibly ahead of his team, both with skill and physical ability. People seem to forget this.
