Considering more than half of what the federal government does is unconstitutional, why does this surprise you?

It's sad how the Capitalism Fanboys are defending Daniel Snyder, and the funny thing is that this selfish frick wouldn't even piss on you if you were on fricking fire.

He doesnt have to be a nice guy to deserve business rights and not to get blackmailed by the government

...and at this point the Redskins' official stance on this topic is "at this point we concede that we are wrong, but it isn't as important as the economy, so LEAVE US THE frick ALONE." That's a healthy stance there, people. And they throw in a red herring about the state of Oklahoma to boot in order to distract people.

Where did she say it was wrong?

And what she said was true. Congress has way more pressing matter than worrying about a fricking team name

I bet you thought the congressional hearings on Steroids in baseball were a good allocation of tax dollars as well

Seriously man. There are WAY more pressing issues than the Redskins. ESPECIALLY in those two senators districts. Hell, in every district.

It's a distraction that isn't needed and it's a waste of time.

I'm gonna bookmark comments like this next time Congress wants to bring up gun control, abortion, and gay marriages.

Because those things SURE AS shite aren't as important as the budget either.

Those issues also happen to be under the jurisdiction of the federal government. What a private business decides to call itself isn't.

ETA: Actually jcole is right. None of those are fed gov issues. My bad. But at least they are gov issues of some sort.

good idea
gun control is a moot issue based on the 2nd amendment - fedgov has no business messing with it.

as for abortion and gay marriage, those are both state issues so, again, fedgov has no business messing with it.

glad to see youve finally woken up.

to be clear, everything is a federal issue at the constitutional level. after that, all 3 issues he stated are really state issues ie general guidelines and regulations. its not until an entity oversteps its authority that it should revert back to the federal level - and at that point its actually the SCOTUS, not congress, that has final say.

and besides ALL that - this discussion has really largely ignored the real atrocity in this story: the blatant attempt at blackmail by the federal govt to impose its will where it actually has no authority.

Agreed. My earlier post is one of the few in this thread that touched on this.

This is gov't pushing and legislating morality on private citizens and the private sector where they have done nothing illegal that harms anybody. That is not a role of gov't and should never ever be.

quote:

Senator Cantwell should be aware that there are many challenges facing Native Americans, including an extremely cold winter with high energy bills, high unemployment, life threatening health problems, inadequate education and many other issues more pressing than the name of a football team which has received strong support from Native Americans,” the statement said. “Surely, with all the issues Congress is supposed to work on such as the economy, jobs, war and health care, the Senator must have more important things to do,” the statement said.

Well, considering from what I read that the large majority of Native Americans don't give a shite, I don't give a shite.

This minority of angry individuals can go blow it out their arse.

I just don't understand what is wrong with these people.

The best logical explanation is that they are constantly trying to distract us from the real issues so they can do whatever they want.
