If I understand correctly, the 8 trademark was owned by Teresa Earnhardt/ DEI. That’s why he was forced to drive the 88 car after he left. According to Dale, she decided at some point recently that she did not want to continue ownership of the trademark and they worked out an agreement whereby he would assume ownership.. Bringing this full circle, it’s possible that LJ infringed upon the DEI/ Theresa Earnhardt trademark that was sold to Dale Jr.

I knew I didn’t like Lamar for a reason. Literally no one is confusing a well known font of a number for Lamar’s attempt to do something similar. Two different worlds here.
Plus, you need to win an actual championship before you try and go around copyrighting your number.

So in the end, the one Lamar is upset about isn’t the classic 8 that Dale Jr., ran during his career, it’s the 8 font that he was using in its place.

I’m glad Dale Jr. made it clear what happened. All of the hoopla that was created basically arose out of the misunderstanding that people had that Lamar’s trademark contest was over the DEI/Bud 8, when it had nothing to do with that 8 at all. Now that Dale Jr. and JR Motorsports have the DEI/Bud 8, they don’t have any use for the old 8 font that they were using.

I am just getting into this thread, and havent read all 3 pages. But i thought DEI (Dale Earnhardt Inc) owned the number 8, which is why Dale Jr started using 88. Am i wrong?
