Ravens have only lost one time in the Wild Card round with Lamar as their starting QB and that was during his rookie year.

Alright, fine. Divisional round then. That seems to be the ceiling for Jackson. That team will not be a serious contender for the foreseeable future.

I'm very glad the Falcons didn't bite on this.

Is it a hot take to say I'd rather Justin Fields over Lamar Jackson?

Yes. Justin Fields has been the least efficient passing QB in the NFL over the past two seasons. He had a lower ANY/A than Zach Wilson and Davis Mills. He's also a turnover machine with horrendous pocket presence. Saying that he's better than Lamar or any top 15 QB for that matter is insanity.

I was betting he was getting traded.

Scratch Baltimore off of the list of Super Bowl contenders for the next five years.

This is just stupid. Not saying that they will win a Super Bowl, but they will continue to be a good team and make the playoffs most seasons. Hell, they nearly defeated the Bengals in the Wild Card with Tyler Huntley last year.

Jackson is not good enough to carry them when his salary inevitably forces a roster crunch.

We’ll see, if a team gets hot in the playoffs, they can go pretty far. The Ravens will be a playoff team most seasons, so they’ll have their chance.

Now you’re qualifying your argument. Earlier he wasn’t good enough period, now he won’t be good enough once the roster is impacted by his contracted.

Ridiculous for a QB that will miss a good amount of games.

He isn’t and every year that goes on he loses more and more of his athleticism. He’s a worse investment than a car. His best years are behind him.

5 years = 85 games.

What are the chances he plays 75% of those games?

That's 64 games or almost 13 games per season.

Maybe, maybe not. I’ve seen some non-elite QBs take their teams pretty far. Just last season we watched a team go to the NFC title game with their third string QB. The Ravens may not accomplish anything, but I think Lamar is good enough for the Ravens to accomplish good things.

5 year deal is ideally where you wanted to be.

He's fragile, mediocre in the pocket, but, he still can give a defense fits when he runs.

5 year compared to 7, is huge for ravens. they going for broke, busto and #1 pick in 3-4 years

No I'm not. That is always my stance when it comes to these QB deals. Jackson is good to have on a rookie deal when you can load up the roster around him. The Ravens need him to be 2019 good every single year to justify this contract. My personal opinion is the 2019 version of Lamar is gone and never coming back. His best football is already behind him.

Only when they're on rookie contracts and the team can load up the roster around him.

And you may be right. Injuries are certainly a concern for him. I may even agree that we’ve overpaid him once the numbers come out. That said, I still believe that he has the ability to get the Ravens to where they want to go if he can stay healthy. Only time will tell.
